TURLOCK -- The Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team overcame a strategic move by Sonoma State with the doubles dual matches as the Warriors edged the Seawolves, 5-4, Friday afternoon.

Sonoma State (6-6, 3-3 CCAA) played its usual No. 1 double teams at the No. 2 position in an attempt to pick up a win, but the Warriors' No. 2 doubles team fought off the Seawolves and won. Vanesa Reibstein and Brianna McClintock defeated Stephanie Luk and Molly Maguire, 8-4, and that match ultimately made the difference.

Luk and Maguire had been SSU's top doubles team all season long until Friday as the pair dropped to 5-7 overall and now 0-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Cal State Stanislaus easily won at the No. 1 doubles position with Verena Preikschas and Katie Eng defeating Dana Carollo and Haley Hickock, 8-0 (SSU's normal No. 2 doubles team). Preikschas and Eng improved to 6-0 this season as team.

The Warriors also won the No. 1 through 3 singles matches with Preikschas, Eng and Reibstein all picking up wins. Preikschas beat Luk, 6-4, 6-1; Eng defeated Carollo 7-6 (6-1), 6-1 and Reibstein handled Jeanette Peck, 6-0, 6-3.

Preikschas is now 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the CCAA at No. 1 singles.

The Warriors improve to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA. Stanislaus entered the week  No. 5 in the West while Sonoma State was ranked No. 6 in the region.
