TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team won its third consecutive match — and its second straight 8-1 win — Saturday by defeating the visiting Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles.
The Warriors swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches to improve to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Cal State L.A. Suffered its second straight 8-1 setback and dropped to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play. The Golden Eagles lost to Sonoma State, 8-1, yesterday.
Verena Preikschas and
Katie Eng continue to roll as a doubles team and as singles players. Together, they improved to 8-0 on the season with a 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Bojana Ducanovich and Adriana Espinosa. Preikschas also shutout her singles opponent Ducanovich at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0 while Eng disposed Lana Lamesic at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Preikschas is now 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the CCAA in singles play.
At No. 3 singles,
Vanesa Reibstein recorded a victory over Espinosa, 6-1, 6-0 and
Lexy Harrington took cared of Joyce Librando, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5.
Heather Cotter beat Cyrstal Lam, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6.
Brianna McClintock, who made her debut at No. 4 today, won her first set 6-4, before L.A.'s Marine Prevost rallied for the win.
McClintock and Reibstein won their No. 2 doubles match, 8-5, over Lamesic and Prevost. Cotter and Harrington defeated Lam/Librando at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Cal State Stanislaus will have to play its next six matches on the road before hosting its last home match on April 22 versus Cal Poly Pomona.
