4/23/2009 8:23:28 PM

OJAI — A day after completing her perfect regular season, Verena Preikschas continued her strong play as she dominated her opponents at the 109th Ojai Tennis Tournament at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club.

The seventh-seeded Preikschas rolled through her two singles matches today with two 6-0, 6-0 wins. First, the Cal State Stanislaus freshman beat Biola's Kristen Williams. Then, a few hours later, Preikschas took care of CCAA foe Leslie Horn of Cal State San Bernardino for the third time this season.

Preikschas improved her record to 19-1 overall, including tournament play. Her only loss on the season was to BYU Hawaii's Hewenfei Li, now the No. 3 ranked team in the country, on Oct. 4 at the Wilson/ITA Regionals.

Preikschas will play eighth seed Siobhan Finicane of Pomona-Pitzer in the round of 16 on Friday at 9:30 a.m.

Warrior freshman Katie Eng won her first match in the tournament with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Chrissy Nichol of UC Santa Cruz before dropping her second contest. Eng lost to Chapman University's Liz Lewis, the No. 9 seed, 6-0, 6-2.

Vanesa Reibstein batted in a close contest against fifth seed Vanessa Heroux of Fresno Pacific before dropping the decision, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 with the last set decided with a 10-7 tiebreaker.

In doubles competition, both Cal State Stanislaus teams advance to Friday's round of 16. Preikschas and Eng easily beat Biol's Christine Garner and Nichoelle Johnston, 6-0, 6-0. Preikschas and Eng, the No. 7 seeded doubles team in the draw, are now 15-0 in doubles play.

Reibstein and Briana McClintock also won their match with a win over Jessica Fox and Elisa La Cava, 7-6, 6-2. Fox-La Cava is Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges' top doubles team.

Both Stanislaus teams will square off against squads from Point Loma Nazarene on Friday at 12:30 p.m.

Private institutions in Southern California, such as Chapman, Biola, Cal Baptist and Point Loma Nazarene, have historically fielded strong tennis programs.
