LA JOLLA -- A chance to unseat the best women's tennis program in the California Collegiate Athletic Association was on the line on Saturday, but the Warriors' title run came up just short.

No. 15 UC San Diego held court, and held on to its string of conference championships, after a 6-3 win over No. 19 Cal State Stanislaus at the Northview Tennis Courts. The Tritons have now won seven straight CCAA titles.

UC San Diego (13-6) finished the CCAA season with a 9-1 mark, one win ahead of the Warriors (8-2 in CCAA). Stanislaus is 8-5 overall.

For Cal State Stanislaus, which had its eight-match win-streak snapped, it will now look ahead to the NCAA West Region tournament as they will likely still hold on to the No. 4 spot in the region and the final berth for postseason.

On Saturday, things started out in favor of the host Tritons as they swept through doubles play in three very evenly matched battles.

Natalie Varnay and Taskeen Bains pulled off an upset over Verena Preikschas and Katie Eng of Stanislaus, 8-3, to hand the Warrior duo their first No. 1 doubles loss during CCAA play in two seasons. Preikschas and Eng were 19-0 in two years entering the day.

No. 2 doubles team of Vanesa Reibstein and Brianna McClintock had their four-match win-streak snapped with an 8-5 setback to UCSD's Anita Athavale and Jacquelyn Davis. Finally, at No. 3, Cindy Dao and Valerie Tang edged Arina Polovnikova and Lexy Harrington, 8-5.

In singles play, the Warriors won at No. 1, 3 and 4 singles to pick up three points in the team scoring.

Preikschas downed Bains easily, 6-4, 6-0 and Polovnikova beat Tang, 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 at No. 4. At No. 3 singles, Eng claimed the win with Dao retiring on an injury with the score at 4-6, 4-3, in the second set.

At no. 2 singles, Vanesa Reibstein lost for the first time this conference season with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat to Varnay.

Before getting ready for a return appearance at regionals, the Warriors will take part in the Ojai Tournament next weekend.
