TURLOCK — In a pivotal west region match-up, the No. 19 ranked Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team shutout 25th ranked Cal Poly Pomona, 9-0, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest Friday. It is the team's third 9-0 win this season.

Under breezy conditions with sporadic light drizzle, the Warriors held court to win their sixth straight to improve to 6-1 in CCAA play. Cal State Stanislaus is 6-4 overall with losses to only UC San Diego and Division I programs.

Cal Poly Pomona, playing in its final match in Turlock, falls to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in the CCAA. Cal Poly Pomona announced last month it was dropping its men's and women's tennis programs at the end of the season.

The key match-up was between the West Region's No. 4 ranked Warriors and No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona figured to be a close one. The two teams played to a 5-4 score in favor of Cal State Stanislaus on Feb. 28 in Pomona. The winner would have an upper-hand on the fourth and final berth for the postseason tournament. BYU Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific and UC San Diego are the top three teams in the West.

However, on Friday, the Warriors took a commanding lead early by sweeping doubles competition. Verena Preikschas and Katie Eng improved to 7-0 in conference play with an 8-3 win over Jennifer Chow and Jackie Trendt, who posted a 10-3 overall mark entering the match. Preikschas and Eng are ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division II and No. 2 in the West Region.

At No. 2 doubles, Vanesa Reibstein and Brianna McClintock played in a close match but beat Christie Lau and Kaitlin Wooldridge, 8-6. Arina Polovnikova and Lexy Harrington paired up for the first time this season and won at No. 3 doubles, 8-0, over Mallory Brady and Fallon Blattner.

The closest match during singles play was the top singles competition between Preikschas, the 26th nationally ranked player in Division II, and Lau, who is ranked No. 23. Long after the Warriors clinch the team win, Preikschas and Lau battled to a 7-5 first-set win for the Warrior sophomore. Preikschas then had Lau her second loss of the season with a 6-2 win in the second set.

At No. 5 singles, after losing the first set, Heather Cotter rallied to win 6-1 and 10-7 in the super-tiebreaker to pull out the victory. Erin McGurty also rallied late, with a 10-7 third set win to take No. 6. At No. 3, Eng dominated the first set 6-0 before falling to Brady 6-1 in the second. Eng, though, out-lasted Brady with a 10-2 win in the third.

Both Reibstein and Polovnikova had relatively easy time against Trendt (6-2, 6-1 at No. 2) and Chow (6-2, 6-1 at No. 4), respectively.

Cal State Stanislaus have three road matches reminding in the regular season schedule beginning with a rescheduled match at Sonoma State on April 13.
