ROHNERT PARK — A win to pick up three points in the standings would have been more helpful, but the scoreless draw still kept the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team in the hunt for a CCAA Tournament berth.

The Warriors and host Sonoma State battled to a 0-0 tie Friday afternoon at Seawolf Soccer Field. Cal State Stanislaus is now 10-5-2 overall and 8-5-2 in the CCAA North.

After Friday's play, the Warriors are in third place in the North, three points behind leader Chico State, one behind Sonoma State. For the Warriors to qualify for the tournament, Stanislaus would have to at least tie at Humboldt State on Sunday with a Chico State win over Sonoma State. UC San Diego would also have to at least tie Cal Poly Pomona in La Jolla.

In Friday's match, the Warriors played the Seawolves tough. Despite being out-shot 19-7 on the official tally, the Warriors kept SSU off the scoreboard. Bill Hambelton had a season-high seven saves.

The Warriors were out-shot 7-2 in the second half and 4-0 in the two overtime periods after a 8-5 battle in favor of the Seawolves in the first half.

Sonoma State is now 9-5-3 overall and 8-4-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

It was an extremely physical game, with 30 fouls being called (19 on Stanislaus) and six yellow cards were issued (five on Stanislaus).

The last time the Warriors made the conference postseason tournament (2006), they finished 9-5-2 for second in the CCAA North. Looks like it might be a similar situation this time around.

If Cal State Stanislaus can qualify for the CCAA tournament, they will play at Warrior Stadium Nov. 4-6. The Warriors have the best home record in the conference at 8-1.

Sunday's match at Humboldt State kicks off a 2 p.m. at HSU's College Creek Field.
