Energetic Warriors upend CSU San Bernardino

TURLOCK — In front of a loud, energetic homecoming crowd, the Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball fed off that vibe and shot the lights out en route to a 90-82 win over Cal State San Bernardino Friday night.

Andreanna Marshall knocked in a career-high 31 points, Christin Gowan pulled a personal best 11 rebounds and Katie Busi recorded another double-double. Win the win the Warriors improved to 12-11 overall and 10-9  in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Danielle Shows had 31 points and 20 rebounds to lead Cal State San Bernardino as the Coyotes fall to 17-5 overall and 13-5 in the CCAA.

Humboldt State edged San Francisco State, 66-65, with Bree Halsey tipping in a score at the final buzzer to stay tied for sixth with Cal State Stanislaus in the CCAA standings.

The 90-point out-pour became the Warriors' second this conference season as they beat Cal State L.A., 96-73, back on Jan. 28. The win is also the Warriors' first in the last four attempts against the Coyotes.

In the teams' previous matchup on Jan. 15 in San Bernardino, the Warriors managed to score 47 for the entire game in a 66-47 loss. Friday night, however, it was a much different story. Cal State Stanislaus had 47 points by halftime, thanks largely to the hot start of Marshall, who was 7-for-13 for 19 first half points.

By intermission, Busi also notched her 36th career double-double and 12th such stat this season, with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

CSUSB, though, kept pace with 16 points and 10 rebounds by Shows to stay close with a 47-37 halftime score.

Cal State Stanislaus built a 14-point, 55-41 lead at 17:09 after a pair of Jameiz Terrell free throws for their biggest lead of the night. A 16-4 CSUSB run made the contest a fast paced battle. The Coyotes eventually rallied all the way back to within one, 66-65, with a Eisha Sheppard layup at 7:27 to play.

It was also a one-point game at 6:26 to play, until the Warriors made a charge of their own using an 9-1 run to take a nine-point lead at 4:31 to go.

Also contributing for the Warriors was Gowan, who also scored 16 points including 9-for-11 from the foul line. She also had six assists, a blocked shot and a steal for a well-rounded night. Theresa Henderson chipped in 10 and Terrell finished with 11 points.

Busi, also added five more blocked shots to her totals giving her 199 for her career. She finished the night with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Sabrina Gonzalez chipped in 16 points for the Coyotes.

In Chico Friday night, conference leader Cal Poly Pomona defeated Chico State, 93-79. Cal Poly Pomona is the Warriors' next opponent Saturday night as the season home finale.
