TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team beat Dominican for the second time in a week, this time it was a 9-0 shutout over the visiting Penguins at CSUS Tennis Court on Sunday.
The Warriors first swept through doubles play with relative ease then took down Dominican in singles play by losing just one set to cruise to the victory. Stanislaus, ranked No. 18 in the nation by ITA, improves to 2-2 on the season and are now 2-0 in regional play.
Verena Preikschas and
Katie Eng once again led the Warriors in both doubles and single play as they each went undefeated on the day. The pair teammed up at No. 1 doubles to beat Irina Morozova and Tami Tan, 8-2. Preikschas won her top singles contest against Morozova, 6-3, 6-1, while Eng took down her opponent Shannon McCarthy-Contreras, 6-1, 6-4.
Vanesa Reibstein only appeared in doubles play today as she paired with
Erin McGurty for a 8-6 win over McCarthy-Contreras and Jamie Fernandez at No. 2 doubles. McGurty also dominated in her No. 5 single match in by blanking Tan, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 3 doubles,
McKenzy Harden and
Lexy Harrington had little trouble with Michele Freitas and Anh Truong in a 8-1 win. Harden, a freshman from Ceres, took down her No. 4 singles opponent Fernandez in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5. Harrington won at No. 3 over Freitas, 6-1, 6-0.
LIndsey West, who was in the singles lineup in place of Reibstein, played at No. 6 singles an she won her match over Truong, 6-1, 6-3.
Cal State Stanislaus is next up against key regional opponent Cal State L.A. on March 11 in Los Angeles.
