SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Despite being blanked by Cal Poly, the Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team opened the spring season with strong results Friday at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
Verena Preikschas and
Katie Eng pushed their Division I opponents to the max before the Warriors fell to the Mustangs, 7-0, using Division I scoring.
Preikschas and Eng opened the day making a statement with a narrow 8-7 setback to Alexa Lee and Jen Cornea at No. 1 doubles. In the other two doubles matches, the Warriors were shutout 8-0 to allow Cal Poly to earn the single point in the team scoring.
Preikschas then matched Alexa Lee nearly point-for-point at No. 1 singles before falling, 6-4, 7-6. At No. 3 singles, Eng also stepped up the challenge after dropping the first set 6-0. She rebounded with a strong second set before losing 7-6 to Jocelyn Davis.
At No. 2 singles,
Vanesa Reibstein fell to Florence Lehane, 6-1, 6-2.
Lexy Harrington at No. 4,
McKenzy Harden at No. 5 and No. 6
Erin McGurty also lost two sets to none.
The Warriors continue their Central Coast road trip against another Division I program on Saturday when they will take on UC Santa Barbara in Goleta.
