LOS ANGELES — The Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team fought through closely contested doubles play to start the day by winning two of the three matches en route to a 7-2 win over Cal State L.A.
The 21st ranked Warriors are led by
Vanesa Reibstein and
Erin McGurty as both won their doubles and singles matches on the day. Reibstein and McGurty doubled up to beat Jilliam Sangria and Charlotte Spassoff, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. Reibstein then picked up a No. 2 singles victory over Larn McShane, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. McGurty battled to win her singles play at No. 6, 6-4, 6-4, over Spassoff.
Also winning their doubles match was
Lexy Harrington and
McKenzy Harden with a narrow 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles over Linda Majzlikova and Maria Xavier.
At No. 1 singles,
Verena Preikschas won the rivalry match against Christie Lau, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2. The duo have had some battles the past couple of years when Lau was a Cal Poly Pomona. Lau transferred to Cal State L.A. after Pomona dropped its tennis program.
Katie Eng also took cared of her opponent, Majzlikova at No. 3 singles, with convincing 6-2, 6-1 scores. Lastly Harrington rebounds in the third set to beat Xavier, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
The Warriors' road trip continues with a match on Saturday against No. 17 UC San Diego in La Jolla.
