Warriors take 6-3 win over Academy of Art

TURLOCK — The 19th ranked Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis begins its busy weekend with a win on Friday as the Warriors defeatd Academy of Art, 6-3.

The Warriors won in doubles play at No. 1 and No. 3 and took four of out six matches in singles competition to claim the victory. Cal State Stanislaus begins a three-day, three-match weekend on Friday. On Saturday the Warriors will face UC San Diego before hosting Cal State L.A. on Sunday.

Verena Preikschas and Katie Eng, the No. 6 ranked doubles team in the nation, took an 8-3 win over Kukanda Phukchampa and Laone Botshoma. Preikschas and Eng also won their singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 for a perfect day.

Eng's singles match was the closest one of the day. After she dropped the first set 7-5, Eng took the second set 6-2. She and Amal El Hadj then played all the way to a 7-6 battle before Eng won the tiebreaker 7-1.

Lexy Harrington and Erin McGurty won their No. 3 doubles match with an 8-2 win over Paola Fe and Courtney Dewalt. McGurty then went on to win her singles match in three after falling 6-1 in set No. 1. She rallied with 6-4, 6-2 wins.

Vanesa Reibstein won her single match, at No. 3, over Botshoma, 6-4, 6-2.
