TURLOCK — By the slightest margin, the 17th ranked UC San Diego Tritons defeated No. 19 Cal State Stanislaus  in women's tennis, 5-4, on Saturday.

Playing in their second match in as many days, with one more to go on Sunday, the Warriors came up just one point shy of grabbing the victory against regional powerhouse UC San Diego.

The Warriors took two points in double play with impressive wins over the Tritons at both No. 1 and No. 2. Verena Preikschas and Katie Eng, the sixth ranked duo in the country, beat #24 Taskeen Baines and Haley Perrotte, 8-3, in the top doubles match.

At No. 2 Vanesa Reibstein and McKenzy Harden took cared of Jacquelyn Davis and CIndy Dao in a 8-3 win.

Three points away from grabbing its first victory over UCSD, the Warriors again looked to their leaders in singles play. Preikschas and Reibstein both won their respective singles matches, but the Tritons won in all others for the points they needed for the team score win.

No. 25 ranked Preikschas had little trouble against Baines with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Reibstein captured her No. 3 singles win with a straight-set win over Melissa Breiksacher in the day's longest contest. Reibstein won the close battle, 7-5, 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreaker advantage.

Cal State Stanislaus will take on Cal State L.A. to finish its weekend with a home match on Sunday at 10 a.m.
