TURLOCK — The 19th ranked Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team swept doubles play en route to a 7-2 win over Cal State L.A. on Sunday.
The Warriors sweep all three doubles matches against the Golden Eagles, Stanislaus took a commanding 3-0 lead. The sixth ranked doubles team of
Verena Preikschas and
Katie Eng beat No. 23 Christie Lau and Larn McShane, 8-4.
Vanesa Reibstein and
McKenzy Harden played to the same score to defeat Charlotte Spassoff and Linda Majzlikova. Finally, at No. 3 doubles,
Lexy Harrington and
Erin McGurty teamed up for an 8-5 win against Joyce Librando and Jillian Sangria.
Preikschas and Lau provided the top match-up on the day at No. 1 singles play. Preikschas and Lau, who transfered to Cal State L.A. from Cal Poly Pomona after the Broncos dropped their program, had built a rivalary as two of the best players in the region.
On Sunday, Preikschas prevailed after falling in the first set. Lau took set one, 6-4, but Preikschas was able to rally for a 6-3 win. The third set went in favor of the Warrior junior from Germany with a 10-7 super tiebreaker score.
Eng also won her singles play at No. 3 by beating Linda Majzlikova in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. The Warriors won two other singles competitions at No. 5 and No. 6 with Haden and Harrington both victorious.
