Fast start not enough for Warriors against HSU

Box Score TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team got off to a tremendous start, but the Warriors were not able to hold off Humboldt State as the Lumberjacks won 82-63 Friday night.

Jameiz Terrell scored a career high 19 points and Lauren Godde knocked in a game-best 21 points before the Warriors fell to 5-12, 2-11 California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Humboldt State made 13 three-pointers en route to the win and improved its record to 13-4 overall and 9-4 in the CCAA.

The Warriors scored the game's first nine points and built a 11-point lead at 13-2 five minutes into the game with four different players scoring. Meanwhile, the Lumberjacks missed their first nine shots and were just 1 for 10 to start.

Humboldt State would rally and stay close. The Warriors' final lead of the game came with 5:20 left to play in the first half when they had a 24-21 edge after a pair of Terrell free throws.

However, the Lumberjacks out-scored CSUS 18-6 to close out the half, including a buzzer beater by Kelly Kime for a 39-30 lead at the break.

Humboldt State scored the first seven points of the second half before leading by as many as 21 points, 60-39, at 11:23 on a Caitie Richards trey. Kayla Williams led HSU with 20 points, on five three-pointers, and Lisa Petty had 14 points with four triples. HSU finished 13 for 23 (56.5 percent) from beyond the arch.

For Terrell, who scored 16 points three times this season, had 13 of her points in the first half. She made three of the team's four three-pointers. Terrell finished the night 6 of 14 for 19 points. She also had three assists and two steals to go with her totals.

Godde scored 14 of her 21 points in the second half en route to a double-double night, her fourth in her career. Godde, who is fourth in the CCAA in rebounding, pulled 13 boards and shot 9-for-16 from the field. She also had three steals.

Cal State Stanislaus hosts Sonoma State Saturday night during the annual "pink zone" night in support for WBCA's breast cancer awareness program, Play 4 Kay. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Arena. Sonoma State beat Chico State, 57-45, Friday.
