Wariors open season with setback at Dominican

Box Score SAN RAFAEL — Opening the season on the road proved not to be an easy task as Cal State Stanislaus started the 2012-13 campaign with a 69-59 loss at Dominican Saturday night.

Ray Mitchell led the Warriors with 14 points and Wes Bartole came off the bench to score 13 points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds in losing effort.

Dominican led most of the night and by as many as 17 points midway through the second half. The Penguins were led by their three seniors. Jammall Clark, Jacob Noisat, and Ricky Wofford teamed for 43 points on 14-of-25 shooting from the floor and 15-of-18 marksmanship from the foul line.

The Warriors shot just 41.9 percent from the field and made 3 of 13 three-point tries in the season debut. Dominican shot 52.1 percent as a team including a sparkling 58.3 clip in the second half (14 for 24).

Cal State Stanislaus was also out-rebounded 35-24.

The Warriors opened the game on a 6-2 run with a Clinton Tremelling three-pointer at 16:33 for the four-point lead. However, Stanislaus saw its last lead at 8-7 after a Bartole jumper at 14:17.

Clark had 16 points, Noisat 15 and Wofford 12 points to lead the Penguins. Devin Golston pulled 11 rebounds.

The Warriors will open at home on Wednesday when they host UC Merced. Tipoff is at 7:10 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Arena
