Box Score TURLOCK — It was a tough home and conference debut for the new Cal State Stanislaus women's team as the Warriors suffered a 78-42 loss to Chico State Tuesday night.
Lauren Godde scored 20 points and 11 rebounds but Cal State Stanislaus was out-shot and out-rebounded by the visiting Wildcats in the first California Collegiate Athletic Association game for both teams.
Chico State had five players between 10 to 15 points and shot a tidy 42.2 percent from the field for the run-away win to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
The home court and rims were supposed to be kind to the Warriors, but that was not the case as they shot 26.2 percent (17 for 65) from the floor in their 2012 home opener. Stanislaus was also just 2 for 20 from behind the arch.
Chico State also won the rebounding battle 58-42 and nailed eight three-pointers. The Wildcats used a 21-7 run to close the game for the final 36-point margin.
While they never led, except for the opening free throw by Godde, the Warriors got as close as five-points inside the seven-minute mark at 18-13 on a
Natalie Winters layup. After the Wildcats surged ahead, a Godde bucket with three minutes left to go until intermission made it 25-19.
However, Chico State turned a 34-20 halftime lead into a 42-20 cushion with eight unanswered points to start the second half.
Jazmine Miller and McKenzie Dalthorp each scored 15 to lead Chico State. Three other Wildcats each chipped in 10 points.
Winters finished with seven points but no other Stanislaus player had more than four points.
Erin Godde had seven rebounds.
After the Thanksgiving break, the Warriors will have to go across the boarders to regroup when the Warriors travel to British Columbia to play a pair at Simon Fraser. The two non-conference games are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
