LOS ANGELES — In a very tightly contested tennis match, No. 17 Cal State L.A. got the better results as the Golden Eagles defeated No. 33 Cal State Stanislaus, 6-3, on Tuesday.
No. 1 doubles team
Verena Preikschas and
Katie Eng suffered their first dual match loss of the season as they fell to Christie Lau and Larn McShane, 8-4. Together the Stanislaus duo has nearly 60 career victories together and was 11-1 in all competitions during the 2011-12 season.
Cal State L.A. also won at No. 2 doubles while the Warriors took No. 3's with
Heather Cotter and
McKenzy Harden edging out Tiffany Leung and Liz Franco, 8-5.
"It was a very close match. This was the best I've seen Cal State L.A. play," CSUS head coach
Verek Visaraga said. "It came down to the last two matches of the day.
"Our girls played extremely well today and I am really proud of them," Visaraga added.
Davina Meza won at No. 2 singles, as she beat McShane, 6-4, 6-3. Cotter was also victorious at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Maria Xavier.
The Warriors, now 5-3, will face another powerhouse program UC San Diego at La Jolla on Wednesday.
