TURLOCK – A lone goal scored by Alexia Poon seconds into the match sealed the Warriors' victory over the Cal State East Bay Pioneers Friday night at Warrior Stadium.

Poon scored just 17 seconds into the contest for Cal State Stanislaus as the Warriors improved to 4-1-0 on the season. Stanislaus is 2-1-0 in the CCAA North Division. The goal goes down as the quickest goal scored by a Warrior in program history.

Poon's score came just off the kickoff as Demery dribbled through defenders and connected with Poon, who blasted from just outside of the box to finish in the upper left corner of the net.

The Warriors dominated the ball throughout the game, with 19 shots on goal to Cal State East Bay's six. Poon took four shots on goal, and Bernie Bettencourt had three. Karenee Demery had five shots and assisted Poon's goal.

“Early in the game we were all over them and had some great opportunities to get it up to 2-0, but they were able to keep it out of the back of the net,” head coach Gabriel Bolton said. “At the end of the day you just have to grind out wins.”

Cal State East Bay (2-2-0, 0-2-0 CCAA), which had a relatively quiet first half, stepped up their game in the second half by intensifying their defense and having better ball control. The Warriors had a few close calls when the Pioneers came dangerously close to scoring multiple times in the second half.

Eugenie Foote got the ball with no Warrior players near and an open field in front of her. Foote was called offsides, or else it could have been costly for the Warriors.

“I was really proud of our effort defensively,” Bolton said. “We were strong and physical, and I was proud of the effort we gave to get this win.”

The Warriors next opponent is Cal State Monterey Bay, who they will play at home on Sunday at 11:30.
