1/19/2013 7:24:00 PM

Box Score LOS ANGELES — Tessondra Williams show why she's one of the top scorers in the conference. Williams scored 29 points to lead the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles over Cal State Stanislaus, 70-57, Saturday night.

However, the game was closer than what the final score show before Cal State L.A. pulled away late to improve to 12-5 overall and 7-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Williams scored 10 of her team's final 12 points with eight of them from the free throw line to help seal the deal. She was 6-for-8 from the field with three three-pointers and made all 14 of her free throw attempts.

The Warriors (2-13, 1-9 CCAA) were led by Lauren Godde, who finished with 15 points. Godde, who entered the week as the fourth-best scorer in the conference, was in a scoring showdown match-up against Williams (second in the CCAA with 19.1 points per game before the weekend).

Devin Brown chipped in 13 points for the Warriors while Erin Godde made three three-pointers for nine points. Katie Staack had a career-best with seven rebounds.

After the Golden Eagles scored the first six points of the game, the Warriors went on a 10-2 run to take a two-point lead after a Lauren Godde three-pointer to make it 10-8. No one would lead by more than three points after that in the half before the Golden Eagles took a 29-28 halftime lead.

The Warriors trailed by as many as eight points 10 minutes into the second half but they cut the deficit down to four with a jumper by Molly Farrar and later again a layup by Devin Brown.

However, L.A. scored seven unanswered points, capped by a Bree Parsons trey at 4:37 to stay ahead.

After a 0-4 stretch on the road over two weekends, the Warriors will be home to host Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay next week at Fitzpatrick Arena.
