LA JOLLA — Sam Marcus scored a season-high and Marcus Bell notched another double-double as the Cal State Stanislaus men continue their dominance over UC San Diego with a 70-64 win Friday night.

Marcus led all players with 21 points and Bell scored 13 with 13 rebounds to lift the Warriors as they improved to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The win extended the Stanislaus win-streak over the Tritons to seven games, dating back to the 2009-10 season, when UCSD beat the Warriors twice.

Marcus was 5-for-10 and made two three pointers for his totals in points, which was just one point shy of a career high. He also converted on nine of 10 free throw attempts. Bell's double-double was his fifth this season. Bell also had two blocked shots and three steals on defense.

On the strength of three consecutive three-pointers in the middle of the first half — two by Marcus, one by Alek Carlson — the Warriors extended their lead to 13 points at 7:50 left to play and never looked back.

UC San Diego (5-4, 1-4 CCAA) got within two points twice in the second half, but that's when the Stanislaus post players took over with in-the-paint buckets by Bell and Rob Walters as they each scoring six points during key moments.

The Tritons would try to rally again late in the contest but there was just too much Sam Marcus on the night. The senior guard's jumper at 2:56 gave the Warriors another 9-point lead. Then, he converted on all six of his free throws in the final minutes to seal the win.

Shey Mataele, who was limited in action due to foul trouble, also contributed on the line with six free throws in the final 78 seconds.

Carlson made three three-pointers for nine points in the first half as the Warriors nailed half of their long-range shots (8-for-16). Stanislaus also finished with a solid total at the foul line at 20-for-26 (76.9 percent).

UC San Diego was led by James McCann with 19 points — 10 of them from the free throw line.

The Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes are the Warriors' next opponent on Saturday at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino. The Warriors beat CSUSB twice last season, including winning in San Bernardino for the first time.

The Coyotes beat Chico State, 84-81, Friday night for their eighth straight win and improved to 8-1, 5-0 CCAA.
