GLENDALE, Ariz. —
McKenzy Harden and
Analyssa Tallas each won twice as they led the Warriors to their spring opening match over Western New Mexico, 6-3, on Thursday.
Cal State Stanislaus opens the spring portion of the 2013-14 season on the road — after home matches were washed out last weekend due to weather — with three netural site matches this week at the Paseo Racquet Center. Western New Mexico, the No. 9 ranked team in the South Central Region, was the Warriors' first opponent.
To start out the early-morning match, the Warriors' top doubles team of
J'Ana Diamond and
Jessica Laurie beat-out Ganna Tiurina and Diamond Morrill, 9-7.
Tiurina, of Ukraine, was the 2013 RMAC player of the year. She defeated Diamond at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Also winning at doubles competiton was the Warriors' No. 2 team as Tallas and Harden easily took down Marie Monier and Dena Irvin, 8-1. Harden won her No. 2 singles match, 6-3, 6-3 over Monier as well. At No. 4 singles, Tallas was victorious in her first collegiate dual match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Morrill.
At No. 3 singles,
Jessica Laurie defeated Claudia Osuna, 6-3, 6-2 and
Jessica Stokes shut-out Irvin, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles play.
The Warriors will face Chaminade on Friday at Noon mountain time.
