TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team finally made its 2014 season debut on Saturday, but Sonoma State were strong with its depth in taking the 8-1 decision.

Jessica Laurie rallied to win her singles match at No. 3 to account for Stanislaus' lone point in the team scoring. Laurie, one of four new Warriors playing in a competitive match here at Cal State Stanislaus for the first time, defeated Kaitlyn Haithcock in three, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. Laurie, who is from Eugene, Ore., came back in the second to pull out a 6-4 win and out-lasted Haithcock 10-7 in the super tie-breaker third set with a fore-hand winner.

J'Ana Diamond and Analyssa Tallas also made their first appearance on home court but both fell in straight sets, at No. 2 and No. 4 singles play, respectively. Katie Ferlmann also appeared as an alternate on the day.

At the top spots, No. 10 nationally ranked Sara Celma blanked McKenzy Harden while the top doubles match was won by the No. 21 ranked Celma and Haithcock pair over Diamond and Laurie, 8-3.

Sonoma State, ranked No. 28 in the preseason poll and No. 9 in the latest West Region poll released this week, improved to 4-2.

The team's season home debut was delayed by two weeks after matches were postponed on Feb. 8-9 due to weather. The Warriors returned from a three-match trip in Glendale, Ariz., 2-1, and finally hit the home courts today. They will host Sierra College in an exhibition contest on Sunday at Noon.
