17th ranked Tritons defeat Stanislaus in tennis

LA JOLLA — The youthful Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team fell in the hands of UC San Diego, the 17th ranked team in Division II, on Friday at the Northview Courts on campus.

Jessica Stokes had the longest singles match as far as sets go as she battled at No. 5 before losing in three sets to her opponent Shannon Theisen. Stokes won the first set 6-2, but Theisen rallied to a 6-2 win to force the third super-tiebreaker set before prevailing 10-3.

J'Ana Diamond nearly made a great comeback in her singles match before falling 6-1, 7-5.

Earlier on the day, Diamond and Harden teammed at No. 1 doubles but lost 8-2 to 17th ranked Paula Chou and Kyra Scott, who is also the 26th ranked singles player in the nation. Scott won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, over Jessica Laurie.

Cal State Stanislaus (5-13) will completes its season with a match at Cal State L.A. on Saturday.
