Box Score SAN FRANCISCO — For the second time in three matches, the Warriors defense did not allow a goal. However, the offense wasn't able to cash in on scoring opportunities either as the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team opened CCAA play with a scoreless draw at San Francisco State on Friday.
After 110 minutes of "balanced" play, the Warriors and the Gators both walked off the pitch with a tie and a point in the standings to begin the California Collegiate Athletic Association season.
One glaring stat on the final boxscore, however, did show that Cal State Stanislaus (2-3-2, 0-0-1 CCAA) was called for 25 fouls and four yellow cards against the Gators' eight fouls and no cautions.
Neverthless, it was the Warriors' second tie in three matches. Stanislaus has scored two goals in the last four contests since beating Simpson, 4-1, on Sept. 9. Last Tuesday, at home against Cal State Monterey Bay, the teams also played to a scoreless tie.
Friday was also the first time this season that the Warriors were slightly out-shot, 16-12, in favor of SF State (4-1-2, 0-0-1 CCAA). The Warriors had five shots on goal to the Gators' 10 shots on frame — with every shot picked up by Stanislaus goalkeeper
Russ Klabough, who started instead of
Clint Long in the platoon system. Klabough has yet to allow a goal in 200 minutes of play over three matches.
San Francisco State remains unbeaten in its last four matches with two wins and two ties.
Cal State Stanislaus will return home before heading over to Seaside for Sunday's match at Cal State Monterey Bay.
