Box Score AZUSA — In a match-up of the two defending champions of two of the three conferences in the West Region, the 11th ranked Cal State Stanislaus Warriors came out on top, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Azusa Pacific. The win gives Stanislaus two victories against the top two teams in the Pacific West.

Jade Poon scored just 14 seconds into the match and Katie Foster stopped eight saves against a prolific offensive side as the Warriors improved to 2-0-0 on the season. Kirsten Coleman scored a late second-half goal to provide the extra cushion as Stanislaus beat the defending Pacific West Conference champions. APU is again favored to win the PacWest, ahead of California Baptist in the preseason coaches poll. The Warriors beat Cal Baptist, 3-2, in overtime on Thursday.

"Most people thought I was a bit crazy to come play CBU and APU the same weekend the first week of the season. But I believe you need to play the best to challenge yourself and be the best you can be," said Warriors head coach Gabriel Bolton.

The Warriors continue to win on the road as they now improved to 16-0-2 in away contests since the start of the 2012 season. They have also won 18 straight regular season games.

Poon, a freshman from Sacramento, scored just 14 seconds into the match — giving her two scores in a 14-second stretch of game action. She scored the game-winner in Thursday's overtime win at Cal Baptist. Poon collected a loose ball and scored after APU goalkeeper Sarah Klinkenberg mishandled the ball.

In the 76th minute, Coleman gave the Warriors the two-goal lead on a blast from 10 yards out from the right side. She had collected pass from Karli Nestler and beat a defender to the goal.

"Jade scored a great hustle goal. Sometimes that's the way you have to score," said Bolton. "(Kirsten's goal) was an absolute world class goal. She turned her defender and blasted the shot into the back of the net."

In between the two scores, the Stanislaus defense was solid in front of goalie Foster. The APU attack was credited with 14 shots and eight on-goal against the Stanislaus backline, but Foster saved all eigth shots on frame, including some great saves.

"We battled really hard and stood strong defensively. The backs really followed the game plan well and took away their main threat," Bolton added. "Katie played a great match. That was a fantastic save in the final minutes."

Azusa Pacific (0-2), which lost to Sonoma State 1-0 on Thursday, out-shot the Warriors 14-6.

Cal State Stanislaus will have a short break upon returning home tonight as the Warriors will host Central Washington for a Noon match on Monday.
