TURLOCK —
Analyssa Tallas won the decisive singles match in the tightest contest of the day to help lead Cal State Stanislaus over Dominican in a 5-4 narrow victory at the CSUS Tennis Courts on Friday.
In a match where all six Warriors contributed to the team scoring, it came down to the No. 3 singles contest for the decisive point.
The Warriors took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, then took a 4-1 lead with wins by
J'Ana Diamond (at No. 2 singles) and
Ebone Qualls (No. 6 singles). With Dominican taking commanding leads into the second set at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles play, it looked like the match was going to come down to Tallas and Vicari.
Tallas won the first set 6-4 with her and her opponent dueling it out in the second set when Dominican picked up two more points in singles play to make it 4-3. With Rickimae Torres leading
Jessica Laurie in the second set, Tallas finally was able to put-away Vicari, 6-4, to give the Warriors' their fifth point and the team victory.
Diamond was a two-time winner for Stanislaus with her easy singles win, 6-1, 6-0, over Gianna Cupo. Diamond and Laurie had teammed up for a 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles earlier.
Ebone Qualls also won twice with a doubles win alongside
Jessica Stokes and a singles match victory, 6-0, 6-2, over Mackenzie Flanagan at No. 6 singles.
The Warriors, now 1-2 on the season, will face Division I UC Riverside (2-6) on Saturday at Noon on the home courts.
