SAN RAFAEL — Taking advantage of a couple of Penguin injuries and playing "much-improved" tennis, the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors defeated Dominican, 8-1, to complete the season series sweep.
The victory, the Warriors' second over Dominican this season and their second in the last four contests, propelled Stanislaus to 4-9 this season.
The Warriors have been busy, playing six matches during a 12-day span that started last Tuesday, March 24. They will complete this stretch of the schedule with a match at Holy Names on Saturday.
On Thursday at The Club at Harbor Point tennis courts in Mill Valley, the Warriors doubles teams set the tone with 8-4 and 8-5 wins.
Jessica Laurie teammed with
Ebone Qualls for the first time and picked up the 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
J'Ana Diamond and
Analyssa Tallas posted the 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, play, Laurie, Diamond, Tallas, Qualls and
Kaitlyn Ireland all won their matches for the team win. Tallas was already up 6-4, 4-1 when her opponent retired. Dominican also gave up the No. 3 singles and No. 6 singles matches due to a player injury.
