Promotional Events: ASI-USU is hosting a pregame tailgate party for students in front of Fitzpatrick Arena from 5:30 to 7 p.m. prior to the match against Humboldt State. As usual, students, faculty and staff are admitted to the home games for free with Warrior Card … Saturday is Camper Reunion night. Summer campers are admitted to the match for free and the Warriors will be signing autographs.
Series Notes: The Warriors had recent success against Humboldt State before losing four straight in the last two seasons. Stan State had won eight straight from 2009-2012. HSU holds a 13-11 series record but the teams are even at 9-9 during CCAA play … It's a little bit of a different story against perennial regional power Sonoma State as the Seawolves have won 15 consecutive matches dating back to 2007. The last Warriors win was Sept. 28, 2007, a 3-1 Stanislaus win in Turlock.
Another Team Record From the Road: Stanislaus set yet another team record last Saturday with the victory at Cal State Dominguez Hills with its seventh road win of the season.
The last time a Stanislaus team won six road matches was 2010, a feat that took the entire season to accomplish. Not even the 19-win 2002 team won more than six matches away from home.
One of the Best Setters: Maddi Seidl is among the best setters in the CCAA with her 10.00 assists per set average, which is the fourth best in the conference. In 10 matches and 36 sets, she's posted 360 assists. Heidi Sierks from UC San Diego leads with a 11.17 average. The last time a Warrior averaged better than 10.00 assists per set was Tara Hillis when she had 11.15 in 2002.
Team Effort: Some of the keys to the team's early success were the team efforts in a couple of statistical categories. As a team, the Warriors lead the CCAA in digs per set (19.35) and service aces per set (1.76). Five Warriors —
Hailey Gruetzmacher (3.77),
Maddi Seidl (3.64),
Sarah Crowl (3.46),
Paige Walker (3.35) and
Jocelyn Cervantes (3.22) are among the top 20 in the conference in digs per set. Gruetzmacher is seventh in aces (0.35 per set) and
Taylor Massengale is 13th (0.32).
Triple Threat Massengale: Taylor Massengale is leading the team in three different areas with her all-around talent. She is the team's top killer with 116 total and 3.14 kills per set with a prolific attacking percentage of .347. Her 0.78 blocks per set and 29 total blocks are best on the team and she also leads the Warriors with 12 service aces.
Moving Up the Charts: On a quick look of the career record book,
Blair Ehrlich has moved up to eighth with 720 career kills and sixth with 2,613 attempts … At 878 digs,
Sarah Crowl is at No. 5.
About the Opponents: Humboldt State (4-4, 2-2 CCAA) lost both matches last weekend on road, including a 3-0 minor upset in the hands of Cal State Monterey Bay. HSU did host Cal State San Marcos on Tuesday with a 3-0 win. HSU has one of the top hitters in Nicole Bewley who posts a .415 average. Haley Biles averages 4.81 digs per set. Symone Hayden has the most kills with 105 … Sonoma State (5-3, 1-1 CCAA) was upset by Cal State Montere Bay last week, too, in a 3-2 decision in Seaside on Thursday. Caylie Seitz leads the conference with 4.26 kills per set. She's had 132 kills. SSU uses two setters, Courtney Seda and Calan Seitz.
