Warriors Notes
Double Trouble: Two players had back to back double-double nights last weekend at home as the Warriors swept Cal State L.A. and Cal State San Marcos. Riley Holladay scored 13 points with 10 rebounds on Friday and had season highs 15 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday. Erika Larsen netted 10 points and 11 rebounds against L.A. and scored 11 points and pulled 13 boards versus Cal State San Marcos (both season highs).
How Long Is the Trip? While it's not the Warriors' longest trip of the season (they went to Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska to start the regular season), this week's trip will be the longest bus trip during the season. In all (from Wednesday to Sunday), the team will travel more than 1,500 miles and at least 25 hours on the bus.
May the Force Be With You: On the long road trip, coach Wayman Strickland has some plans for the team: "We are going to try and make this a fun, enjoyable adventure. We will have some fun, do some team bonding and watch a few movies like the entire Star Wars trilogy."
Happy 2016 Holladay: Riley Holladay loves 2016 so far. The junior had two double-doubles, her firsts since her freshman season, with 28 points and 21 rebounds in two games. She was 10-for-18 from the field to go with seven assists, two blocks and two steals.
Another One Bites The Dust: Friday's 34-point win over Cal State L.A. matched a recent large margin of victory of 34 when the Warriors beat Cal State Monterey Bay, 81-47, on Jan. 17, 20014 in Turlock. The CCAA era team record was 51 when Stanislaus State won 93-42 over CSUMB to begin the 2001 season.
Two More Double Figure Games for Burch: Ana Burch has been the most consistent player in recent games as she's scored 10 points in each of the last five games that counted. In the two exhibition games, she scored 8 at Pacific and 10 at Fresno State, giving her 72 points in the last seven games. Burch leads the team with seven double-digit scoring games this season.
Taking the Early Lead: Stanislaus is now 6-0 when jumping out to a lead after the first quarter. They are also 7-2 when leading at halftime. The Warriors have also been able to close out games when they are ahead, posting a 7-1 record when leading at the 5:00 left to go mark.
One of the Best Defensive Teams: The Warriors are one of the best defensive teams as they have allowed just 58.7 points per conference game, which is third best among the 13-team league. Stanislaus also held opponents to the 10th lowest field goal percentage behind the arc (.356). As a team, the Warriors lead the CCAA, by far, in turnover margin with a plus-5.3 (14.7 to 20.0). The second best team (CSUDH) is at 2.4. The Warriors are also first with 9.8 steals per game.
