OAKLAND —The Stanislaus State women's tennis team won its second straight match to start the spring season, this time a 6-3 win at Holy Names on a pleasant sunny day in Oakland.
The Warriors rallied with five victories in singles play for the win to improve to 2-0 on the season before hosting Dixie State for their home opener Saturday at Noon.
"It was a great match and the girls showed a lot of fight and stepped up in the big points in the singles matches," head coach
Verek Visaraga said.
J'Ana Diamond, at No. 1 singles, and
Ebone Qualls, at No. 4 singles, were the decisive matches down the wire as both went the full three sets against their opponents. Diamond rallied to out-duel Chelsea Smithback to claim the 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win to clinch the fifth team point to secure the win. Qualls then made it 6-3 with her come-front-behind win in three as well.
Stanislaus State ended up taking No. 1 through No. 5 singles matches with additional wins by
Cassidy Ferrell,
Jaella Conway and
Lamella Belgica.
Conway and Ferrell also won the top doubles match to start the day with an 8-4 win over
