Warriors Notes
Getting That Home Game:Â Stanislaus State is vying for that all-important first round home game of the conference tournament on campus sites on March 1. The Warriors will need another win, or another Cal State San Bernardino defeat, to earn the fourth seed and the home game.Â
Winning Record At Home:Â Inside Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena, the Warriors are now 10-1 this season (8-1 CCAA) and will have a home-winning season for the first time since 2010-11 when that team went 9-4 in Turlock. The Warriors have matched three previous teams (2008-09, 2002-03, 1998-89) with 10 wins at home. They are one win away from matching the 1999-2000 team's 11-win total. No Warrior team has ever won nine CCAA games in a season on home court.
More Playoff Scenarios: In the event that the Warriors (two losses this week) and Cal State San Bernardino (two wins) tie at 12-8, the Coyotes would hold the tiebreaker advantage, having defeated Cal State East Bay once this season … If the Warriors are No. 4, their first round opponent would either be Cal State San Bernardino, Humboldt State or Cal Poly Pomona, all still have a shot at the No. 5 spot. That game would be on Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in Turlock.
Hot Shootin' Valentine:Â Alysa Valentine had two double-digit scoring games to lead the Warriors. She averaged 16 points, three assists, three steals per game with six three-pointers (6 for 12) and shot 54.5 percent (12 for 22) over the weekend. She was ultra efficient on Friday, hitting 8 of 12 shots and 4 of 5 three-pointers over the Lumberjacks.
Sanders-Curry Scores More:Â Cassidy Sanders-Curry added 30 more points with 12 rebounds in the last two games, includng season highs 22 points and 10 rebounds (for her fourth career double-double) against Humboldt State. In the last five games, she's averaged 14.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.Â
Scoring Off Turnovers:Â A glaring advantage from Friday's game was the Warriors' ability to create turnovers and convert them into points. Humboldt State had 26 turnovers (forced by 16 Stanislaus steals) with the Warriors scoring 45 points off of those miscues. Those numbers were well above the season average as the Warriors lead the CCAA with 10.28 steals per game with a league-best +4.28 turnover margin (Stanislaus only had seven turnovers on Friday).
Road Woes:Â The Warriors are just 6-6 on the road this season (4-5 in conference play). Historically, Stanislaus has not been successful away from home with a 57-140 record (48-120 in CCAA play) since the start of the 1998 season. With one more road game, at Cal State L.A., the Warriors can post a winning record for just the fourth time since joining the CCAA in 1998.
