TURLOCK — Despite being under the weather,
J'Ana Diamond battled her opponent in the decisive match at No. 3 singles play as she and the Warriors eked out a 5-4 win over Holy Names on Saturday.
The Warriors improved to 4-3 on the season and will face No. 26 Sonoma State in Rohnert Park on Sunday.
On Saturday, the Warriors started out sluggish in doubles competition. With some of the players battling flus and colds, they dropped two of the three matches to trail 2-1 heading into singles play.
Jaella Conway and
Cassidy Ferrell took cared of their opponents, Chelsea Smithback and Rutendo Gwaze, 8-2, at the No. 1 doubles match.
Needing five more points to get the team win, the Warriors quickly captures wins at No. 1, 2, and 4 singles matches with Conway, Ferrell and
Lamella Belgica posting straight set wins.
Holy Names (5-4) won at No. 5 and No. 6 to even the score at 4-4 as all heads turned to the remaining match on court three.
After Diamond took the first set, 6-4, over Stella Dominik, Dominik made a furious comeback in the second set before the Warrior held strong for the win.
