TURLOCK -- The Stanislaus State women's tennis team opened its spring home schedule with a 5-4 win over Holy Names Saturday on the campus' Stan State Courts.
Jaella Conway hung-on to win her match at No. 3 singles for the decisive team point after the sides battled to a 4-4 tie before her match against Dominique Ernst was completed. Conway had taken the first set 6-4, but Ernst rallied back and actually took a 4-3 lead. The pair batted to a 5-5 tie before Conway held off her opponent en route to a 7-5 set two win to clinch the team victory.
Cassidy Ferrell and Ebone Qualls had already taken down their singles opponents at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Ferrell defeated Eliza McKean, 6-2, 6-0 and Qualls posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Taylor Barajas for two of the Warriors' singles points.
Stan State won two out of three during doubles play earlier in the afternoon to take a 2-1 lead. Ferrell and Conway won at No. 1 doubles (8-2) and Diamond and Qualls won their match at No. 2, 8-3.
The Warriors, No. 50 in the ITA preseason rankings, are now 1-1 and will host Fresno City College on Sunday at Noon.
