DAVIS — The women's tennis team opened the spring 2017 season on Super Bowl Sunday against Division I UC Davis and took a 4-0 defeat at Marya Welch Tennis Center.

Stanislaus State was only able to field five players for the opener and won the team doubles point with a win at No. 1 and a default win at No. 3. The Warriors' top doubles duo of Jaella Conway and Cassidy Ferrell lost to Kristy Jorgensen and Kelsie Bryant, 6-1.

In singles play, Nikita Pradeep won at No. 3 singles over Stan State's Conway, 6-0, 6-1. New Warrior Kristi Van Driver lost to Samantha Martino, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles play. 

The other matches were unfinished since UC Davis clinched the needed four-point win. Unlike Division II matches, D-I contests have a possible max score of 7-0.

The Warriors will play at home next Saturday, Feb. 11, against Holy Names at Noon.
