TURLOCK — The Stanislaus State women's tennis team won its second straight match this week with a win over Dixie State, 6-3, on a breezy Thursday afternoon.
The 49th ranked Warriors, in the midst of a four-match homestand, improved to 4-5 on the season. They had defeated Hawaii Hilo, 7-2, on Tuesday.
The Warriors took a 2-1 lead after doubles competition after the top two doubles teams posted easy wins.
Cassidy Ferrell and Jaella Conway defeated Lacey Hancock and Laura Hartle, 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles,
J'Ana Diamond and
Ebone Qualls took down Hina Goldsmith and Kyra Harames, 8-2.
Stan State then won No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 singles matches — with two closely contested matches.
At No. 3 singles, Diamond won the first set 7-6 (7-3) before rolling over Harames, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, the longest contest of the afternoon, Qualls edged Hina Goldsmith in the first set tiebreaker 8-6 to win 7-6 before posting a 6-3 second set win.
The Warriors will next play No. 17 Sonoma State on Saturday at Noon before hosting No. 11 Academy of Art on Sunday.
