TURLOCK — For the second straight day, the Stanislaus State women's tennis team played against a ranked team — and the Warriors played tough before dropping an 8-1 score to No. 11 Academy of Art on Sunday.
The Warriors, ranked 49th by the ITA, are now 4-7 overall. They had played No. 17 Sonoma State on Saturday, also on home courts.
On Sunday, at No. 1 doubles,
Cassidy Ferrell and
Jaella Conway gave Alma Thell-Lenntorp and Klar Thell-Lenntorp a run. The Thell-Lenntorp twins, ranked No. 11 in Division II, held off a feisty Stan State team 8-6.
Conway posted the Warriors' win, at the top singles spot, with a three-set thriller. She beat Monika Stanikova by coming from behind after losing the first set 6-2. Conway rallied to win 6-1 in set two and 10-6 in the super-tiebreaker to give Stanislaus a team point.
At No. 4 singles, J'Ana Diamon took Maria Andrisani to three sets before falling 7-5, 5-7, 10-4.
The Warriors are away next weekend, at Dominican Saturday and Holy Names on Saturday before finishing the regular season on home court on April 15.
