TURLOCK — Playing tennis outdoors in 20 miles per hour winds was a difficult task; nevertheless the women from both Stanislaus State and Mills College bared the weather Sunday afternoon with the Warriors coming out on top 9-0 against the Cyclones.

The Warriors did not have a difficult time against the Division III program from Oakland, sweeping doubles matches in less than 30 minutes of play. Both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams posted 8-0 win with the third a 8-1 victory.

In singles play, the Warriors won in straight sets without allowing a game to Mills College in five of the six contests. Cassidy Ferrell won the top match of the day over Grace Deaton, 6-0, 6-0 and Kayla Nguyen won at No. 2 over Dana Culpepper, also with 6-0, 6-0 scores. Miliaana Proft, Megan Hagerty and Briana Hooks also blanked their opponents while Taylor Gayla posted 6-0, 6-1 scores over Rebeca Montano.

Stanislaus and Mills will face each again next Sunday in Oakland for a Noon match after the Warriors play at Academy of Art on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Stan State was supposed to host Modesto Junior College at 11 a.m. on Sunday, but the Pirate did not show up due to scheduling confusion.
