TURLOCK – Facing No. 6 ranked Academy of Art (5-1) for the third time this season, the second dual match, the Stanislaus State tennis team (1-6) put up an aggressive fight before losing 3-6 on Saturday afternoon at the Stan State Tennis Courts.
 
Warrior duo Cassidy Ferrell and Kayla Nguyen played an intense match in No. 1 doubles against AAU's Maria Andrisani and Taisiia Andrieieva. Down 2-4, Stan State rallied back and pulled ahead 7-6. Art U held off the Warriors' match point on serve to force the contest into a tiebreaker. After an epic battle the Warriors came out on top, winning the tiebreaker 7-5.
 
In No. 3 doubles Stan State was just short of a win, as Milliana Proft and Ebone Qualls lost in a tiebreaker 7-8 (5-7) to Kristina Gross and Klara Thell-Lentorp. The Warriors were ahead to start the match but the Urban Knights came back to prolong the match and eventually steal the win.
 
Later in the afternoon the Warriors earned two wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles. Ferrell defeated Stanikova 6-3, 6-4, and Hooks dominated Gross 6-3, 6-3. Taylor Galya was just short of a victory, winning the second set 6-3 to prolong the match after losing the first set 1-6. Her opponent Alcantara won the decisive tiebreaker 10-5.
 
In other matchups, Megan Hagerty and Taylor Galya fell to Monika Stanikova and Paula Alcantara from AAU, 2-8 in doubles play. Nguyen lost to Thell-Lentorp 6-1. 6-0, Hagerty was defeated 6-2, 6-1, and Proft felt to Andrieieva 6-0, 6-1.
 
Tomorrow the Warriors will travel to Mills College for another set of Matches starting at noon at the Meyer Tennis Center.
