Box Score SAN BERNARDINO – Claiming another CCAA win, the Stanislaus State women's basketball team stole a victory from Cal State San Bernardino 67-56 on Saturday night at the Coussoulis Arena.
The Warriors snapped a three-game skid and are now 10-13 overall and 7-10 in the conference. The Coyotes have fallen to 9-13 and 7-11 in CCAA play.
Lizzy Alexander led the Warriors with 20 points and
Caitlin Keding scored 16 points.
Erika Larsen once again led Stan State's rebounding efforts with nine rebounds. Additionally, Alexander,
Kyanna Davis, and
Angelica Baylon each had five rebounds, and
Caprina Pipion had four rebounds to total 28 of the Warriors 33 overall rebounds.
Both Alexander and Davis each had four assists and Baylon followed with three assists. Alexander and Baylon each had four steals and Davis had three steals.
As a team the Warriors shot 40.4 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from the three-point arc, and 67.9 percent from the free-throw line.
Alexander started off the game with a three-pointer and a jumper to put the Warriors on the board. Two free-throws by Davis gave Stan State a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. The Coyotes started to close the gap towards the end of the quarter, but the Warriors finished the period with a five-point lead (18-13).
Stan State made the first shot in the second quarter almost three minutes into the period. Making six shots while the Warriors went without a basket, CSUSB came within one point of Stan State (25-24). Alexander made a three-pointer just before the half-time buzzer, giving the Warriors back their lead before the intermission (35-27).
Stan State took a 12-point lead in the third quarter (44-32), and maintained a double-digit lead almost the entire period. After the Coyotes inched within seven points of the Warriors, two free-throws and a three-pointer once again put Stan State 12 points ahead to end the third period (50-38).
Patterns continued in the final quarter as the Warriors increased their lead to 14 points in the first 32 seconds. Never letting the Coyotes get closer than six points behind, Stan State held their leading position to take the win.
Kaitlyn Parks led Cal State San Bernardino with 15 points, the only Coyote to score in the double-digits. Parks and Lunden Junious-Reliford led with six rebounds apiece. As a team the Coyotes shot 33.3 percent from the field, 30 percent from the three-point line, and 69.6 percent from free-throw line.
Stan State will be back at home next week, starting with the annual homecoming game against Chico State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
