TURLOCK - Now 2-9 overall, the Stanislaus State tennis team was defeated by the University of Hawaii Hilo 7-2 on Monday morning at the Stan State Tennis Courts. 

The Warriors had two wins against the Vulcans in No. 1 and No. 6 singles. Cassidy Ferrell defeated Bevanshi Bhimjiyani 6-2, 6-2, and Ebone Qualls took down Irena Le 6-4, 6-2. Taylor Galya and Miliaan Proft both played close matches, Galya going three sets and Proft forcing a tiebreaker. Galya won her first set 6-4 and fell in the final set 10-8. Proft lost the tiebreaker 10-0 in set one before losing the second set 6-4. 

In other singles matches Megan Hagerty fell 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 singles and Kayla Nguyen lost 6-3, 6-0.

The Vulcans started the morning by taking all three doubles matches, but not without a fight. Warrior pair Ferrell and Nguyen lost 8-7 with a 10-6 tiebreaker, and Qualls and Proft were just short of a victory losing 8-6.

Next week Stan State will host three matches throughout the weekend. The Warriors will take on Holy Names on Friday, Highline College on Saturday, and Dominican on Sunday. All matches are scheduled to begin at noon.
