SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Warriors women's tennis team finished eighth at the PacWest Championship and will bring home some hardware.
Junior
Megan Hagerty received the tournament's Sportsmanship Award, voted by the the league's head coaches at the championship event, held at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Center. Hagerty was recognized for her positivity and fair play during the four-day tournament.
On the courts, the Warriors finished eighth — the program's best finish as a Pacific West Conference member. Dominican took a 5-2 decision over the Warriors on Saturday in a consolation bracket match.
Ebone Qualls and
Miliaana Proft earned a point in doubles play with a 8-4 win over Kaitlyn Nguyen and Alex Wartenberg. Taylor Gayla, who was pivotal in the Warriors' first round match with the decisive match, picked up a point at No. 6 singles with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Savannah Gray.
When the fifth point was reached by the Penguins (10-13),
Cassidy Ferrell was leading Rickimae Torres at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 5-2.
Stan State completes the 2018 schedule with a 8-12 record. The Warriors return six of the seven players on the squad with Qualls the only senior.
