Darren Holman, Stanislaus State cross country head coach, said his team was going to make program history. His predictions came true and the team goal was met as the men's team finished 11
th at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Led by All-American
Joseph Macareno, the 21
st ranked Warriors jumped way ahead of expectations for the historic placement. The 11
th place finish is a program best and Macareno is Stan State's first Division II All-American in the sport.

Stanislaus State was the second-best CCAA and West Region team on the day with a team score of 378. Only Chico State, which was third overall, fared better from the West. Colorado Mines won the team title with 57 points, placing all five runners in the top 20. American International's Ezra Mutai was the individual champion in 29:31.2.

Macareno led the way for the Warriors with a 28
th place finish in 30:30.7 in the 10,000-meter run at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento. Started in the back of the pack, where was 163
rd at the mile mark, Macareno quickly gained ground. He raced into the top 40 in the final 3,000 meters for a top 30 finish, which earned him an All-American award.
The championship meet and his All-American finish wrapped up a tremendous month for Macareno. He came out of a scheduled redshirt season to compete in late October at the CCAA Championships, where he came in fourth to earn CCAA Freshman of the Year honors. Two weeks later at the West Regionals, Macareno raced to a sixth place finish to earned an All-Region medal.
Alexies Reynoso was the second Warrior to finish in 31:35.1 for 85
th. He's closely followed by Cristhian Macais (93
rd, 31:29.9) and
Tomas Huerta (96
th, 31:32.3).
Andrew Vazquez was the team's fifth scorer in 142
nd for 31:57.1.
Carlos Mendoza (32:35.5) and
Caleb Ko (32:40.5) also competed.
The Stan State men's cross country team was appearing in the NCAA Championships for the first time in program's Division II history.
Juarez 67th in women's race
Nancy Juarez placed 67th in a time of 21:20.6 on Saturday in the women's 6,000-meter race. The at-large bid individual entry was the first Warrior woman to qualify for Nationals since the team made it in 2013.
Juarez has been the team leader all year as the top Warrior finish in all but one race.
Adams State, which had the top three finishers and with all five scores in the top 11, won the team championship easily with 23 points over Grand Valley State. Stephanie Cotter was the winner in a blazing 19:15.5.
Chico State was the top finisher from the est in seventh with Cal State East Bay in ninth.
