Warriors to Travel to Hawai’i for Next Three Games

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State women's basketball team will travel to Honolulu, Hawai'i for their next three non-conference games.  The Warriors will face Hawai'i Pacific this Tuesday, Nov. 21 for a 5pm (HT) scheduled tip-off.  They will participate in the Hoops in Hawai'i Thanksgiving Classic Friday-Saturday, Nov. 24-25.  Stan State will face NAIA No. 17 Eastern Oregon on Friday and Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday with both games scheduled for a 1pm (HT) tip-off.  All three games will take place at The Shark Tank (St. Francis).  
 
WARRIORS:  Stan State is 2-2 heading into its three games in Hawai'i this week.  The Warriors are averaging 68.8 points per game while giving up 68.3 rebounds per game.  They are being outrebounded 41 to 39.3.  Stan State's defense is holding its opponents to just 37% shooting from the field including just 29% from three-point range and is forcing 19.8 turnovers per game.  Mya Blake leads the team with her 15.3 scoring average, 51% shooting from the field, seven three-point field goals made, and 41% shooting from three-point land. Liliana Marques is averaging 10.5 points per game and is a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe.  Taylor Pilot leads the team with her 7.3 rebounding average, 17 assists, and eight steals.  Three players are tied for the team lead in blocked shots in Marques, Aunika Hornung, and Joia Armstrong.  
 
STAN STATE HEAD COACH WAYMAN STRICKLAND: Coach Strickland enters his twelfth season at the helm of the Warrior women's basketball team.  He is 112-164 in his coaching stint at Stan State.  In 2013-14, he led the Warriors to one of the best turn-around seasons in program history, going from 2-25 to 13-13 and just missing out on the CCAA tournament.  In February of 2017, the Warriors posted their first postseason victory since 1990 and advanced to the CCAA semifinals.  He has coached 23 All-CCAA honorees including two First Team selections.  Zahria Hendrix (2017-18) and Ana Burch (2013-14) were CCAA Freshman of the Year honorees.  Prior to his arrival on the CSU Stanislaus campus, Strickland was the assistant coach for the women's basketball program at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton between 2009 and 2012. Before his at Delta College, Strickland was the varsity girls coach (2007-09) and varsity boys assistant coach (2002-07) at Stockton's Edison High School.  Strickland spent nine years as a professional player in Europe and Asia.  His accolades include being named the top point guard in the Asian Basketball Championships three times (1996-98). He was the most valuable player of the 1997 Asian Basketball Championships. He was a four-year starter at the University of San Diego from 1988 to 1992, when he amassed 1,040 career points. Currently, he still holds the third spot in the USD record book with 408 assists.

LAST WEEKEND AT HOME: Stan State went 1-1 in its own tournament, Warrior Classic.  Friday evening, the Warriors won their home opener 84-65 over Academy of Art with four players scoring in double digits.  Mya Blake paced Stan State with 17 points.  Lyric Richardson added 12 points and Jadyn Patterson chipped in 11 points off the bench.  Iman Addison scored 10 points for the Warriors and Taylor Pilot dished out ten assists.  Stan State finished the weekend with a 78-59 loss to Simon Fraser despite Taylor Pilot's double-double performance of 15-points and 10-rebounds.  Mya Blake added 11 points and Liliana Marques chipped in 10 points for the hosts.  
 
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM:  Stan State junior transfer Mya Blake was named to the Warrior Classic that took place this weekend at The Fitzpatrick Arena.  Blake led the Warriors to a 1-1 weekend while averaging 14.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.  She had a +2.0 assist/turnover ratio in the Warriors' two games.  For the weekend, Blake shot 46% from the field including connecting on two of her eight attempts from beyond the arc.  She was a perfect two-for-two from the line.
 
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  In just her fourth game of the season, Taylor Pilot recorded a double-double in the Warriors' game versus Simon Fraser.  Pilot scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.  For the season, she is averaging 8.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. 
 
PERFECT: Liliana Marques is a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe in the Warriors' first four games of the season.  She is averaging 10.5 points per game while shooting 46.7% from the field with four steals and two blocked shots.  Marques is amongst the 41 players that have not missed an attempts from the line this season.  Northern Michigan's Makaylee Kuhn is a perfect 21-for-21 in her attempts from the charity stripe.  
 
CCAA LEADERS:  The Warriors as a team are third in the league in turnover margin (+3.75), fourth in field goal percentage defense (37%), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (32%), fifth in offensive rebounding (14.0), and sixth in blocked shots per game (2.25).
 
Mya Blake is third in assist/turnover ratio (+1.7), sixth in field goal percentage (51%), tied for seventh in three-point field goals made (seven), tied for eighth in scoring (15.3 ppg), and tied for tenth in assists (12).  Taylor Pilot is tied for third in assists (seven), sixth in total rebounds (29), tied for sixth in steals (six), and seventh in assist/turnover ratio (+1.4).  Liliana Marques is tied for first in free throw percentage (100%) and Joia Armstrong is tied for seventh in total rebounds (28).
 
THREE MORE FIRST TIME OPPONENTS: This week's opponents in Hawai'i Pacific, Eastern Oregon, and Northwestern Oklahoma State will be the first time that the Warriors have faced them in women's basketball.  They join Simon Fraser as the Warriors' first-time opponents this season.  
 
HAWAI'I PACIFIC:  The Sharks enter their game with the Warriors on Tuesday with a 0-2 record after starting the season losing to Alaska Anchorage (66-48) and Montana State Billings (57-54) back on November 10-11.  They are averaging 51 points per game while giving up 61.5 points per game.  HPU is outrebounding its opponents 38 to 35.5.  Erika Glenn leads the way with her 10.5 scoring average.  Kaylee Berry leads the team with her 6.5 rebounding average and Keona Loftis is shooting a team high 50% from the field.  Jordyn Jensen leads HPU with her 91.7% shooting from the line and Megan Jones has blocked a team high seven shots.  
 
EASTERN OREGON:  The NAIA No. 17 ranked Mountaineers are 3-0 after defeating Montana Tech (55-54), Montana Western (80-78), and Simpson (71-41) in their first three games.  Eastern Oregon is averaging 68.9 points per game while giving up 57.7 points per game.  The Mountaineers are outrebounding their opponents 46.3 to 32.3.  Beverly Slater leads the team with her 18.3 scoring and 12.3 rebounding average to go with her team high 54% shooting from the field.  Bayley Brennan is averaging 15.7 points per game and has made a team high nine three-point field goals.  Kelsie Siegner leads the Mountaineers with her 85.7% shooting from the line and nine assists.  Brie Holecek has recorded a team high five steals. 
 
NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE:  The Rangers are 3-0 entering their game on Friday against Chaminade. They have defeated Northeastern State 68-58, Central Oklahoma 68-60, and Kansas Christian 124-50.  Northwestern Oklahoma State is averaging 86.7 points per game while giving up 56 points per game and outrebounding its opponents 45.3 to 28.3.  Four players are averaging double digits in scoring in Carly Craig (15.7 ppg), Faith Simpson (15.0 ppg), Chrissen Harland (11.0 ppg), and Mia Jones (10.0 ppg).  Craig leads the team with her 55% shooting from three-point land, 100% shooting from the line, and 14 assists.  Simpson is averaging a team high 7.7 rebounds per game ad shooting a team leading 52.6% from threes to go with her three blocked shots.  Payton Jones has recorded a team high 11 steals.
