TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State will look to stay undefeated in conference play when the Warriors host Cal State San Marcos and Sonoma State this weekend in a pair of CCAA games at The Fitz. The Warriors will face Cal State San Marcos this Thursday, January 4 at 5:30pm and Sonoma State this Saturday, January 6 at 1pm.
WARRIORS: Stan State is 10-5 overall and 5-0 in the CCAA after defeating Cal State Monterey Bay 78-73 on New Year's Eve in Seaside.
Mya Blake leads the way with her 13.5 scoring average followed by
Liliana Marques' 11.7 points per game average. Marques leads the team with her 28 treys made and 84.6% shooting from the charity stripe.
Jadyn Patterson connecting on a team high 46.9% of her attempts from beyond the arc.
Taylor Pilot leads Stan State with her 5.8 rebounding average, 44 assists, and 33 steals.
Lyric Richardson is shooting a team high 54.5% from the field and
Aunika Hornung has blocked a team leading 15 shots.
STAN STATE HEAD COACH WAYMAN STRICKLAND: Coach Strickland enters his twelfth season at the helm of the Warrior women's basketball team. He is 120-167 in his coaching stint at Stan State. In 2013-14, he led the Warriors to one of the best turn-around seasons in program history, going from 2-25 to 13-13 and just missing out on the CCAA tournament. In February of 2017, the Warriors posted their first postseason victory since 1990 and advanced to the CCAA semifinals. He has coached 23 All-CCAA honorees including two First Team selections. Zahria Hendrix (2017-18) and Ana Burch (2013-14) were CCAA Freshman of the Year honorees. Prior to his arrival on the CSU Stanislaus campus, Strickland was the assistant coach for the women's basketball program at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton between 2009 and 2012. Before his at Delta College, Strickland was the varsity girls coach (2007-09) and varsity boys assistant coach (2002-07) at Stockton's Edison High School. Strickland spent nine years as a professional player in Europe and Asia. His accolades include being named the top point guard in the Asian Basketball Championships three times (1996-98). He was the most valuable player of the 1997 Asian Basketball Championships. He was a four-year starter at the University of San Diego from 1988 to 1992, when he amassed 1,040 career points. Currently, he still holds the third spot in the USD record book with 408 assists.

Mya Blake scored a season high 25 points to go with her nine rebounds, four steals, three assists, and one blocked shot.
Jadyn Patterson tied her career high with 16 points while
Lyric Richardson recorded her second double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Stan State forced 22 turnovers by the Otters and turned them into 23 points. The Warrior defense held the Otters to just 39% shooting from the field including 28% from three-point land. They recorded 13 steals led by
Taylor Pilot and Blake each with four steals.
ALL ALONE IN FIRST PLACE: Stan State is 5-0 in CCAA and the Warriors are the only team in the conference with an undefeated record in CCAA play. Cal State San Marcos is second with its 4-1 record followed by a three-way tie for third place in Cal Poly Pomona, Sonoma State, and Chico State each at 3-2. The last time the Warriors started off CCAA play was during the 2021-22 season when they went 6-0. Their streak that season was snapped on Jan. 2, 2022, with a 67-58 loss at Chico State.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Three Warriors have recorded double-doubles this season in
Taylor Pilot,
Joia Armstrong, and
Lyric Richardson. Pilot recorded a double-double in the Warriors' game versus Simon Fraser on Nov. 18. Pilot scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Armstrong recorded her first double-double of the season in the Warriors' game at Hawai'i Pacific on Nov. 21. She scored 21 points and 11 rebounds. She went 10-for-16 from the field, blocked five shots and made her only attempt from beyond the arc. Richardson recorded her first double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) in the Warriors' victory over Cal State East Bay on Nov. 30, 2022. She went five-for-ten from the field to go with her two steals and two blocked shots. Her second double-double came in Stan State's victory at CSUMB on New Year's Eve with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She was perfect from the field going five-for-five.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Stan State junior transfer
Mya Blake was named to the Warrior Classic that took place Nov. 17-18 at The Fitzpatrick Arena. Blake led the Warriors to a 1-1 weekend while averaging 14.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. She had a +2.0 assist/turnover ratio in the Warriors' two games. For the weekend, Blake shot 46% from the field including connecting on two of her eight attempts from beyond the arc. She was a perfect two-for-two from the line.
Liliana Marques was named to the 2023 Outrigger Hoops in Hawai'i Classic All-Tournament Team. Marques averaged 19.0 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in the Warriors' two games in the classic including scoring a career high 25 points in Stan State's game versus Northwestern Oklahoma State. Marques shot 48% from the field including 52.6% (10-for-19) from three-point land. The Sacramento native was four-for-six from the line to go with her three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

CCAA LEADERS: The Warriors are second in the CCAA in field goal percentage defense (36.7%) and three-point field goal percentage (36.2%). They are third in blocked shots (3.60/game) and fourth in scoring defense (64.5 points per game) and three-point point field goal percentage defense (26.3%). Stan State is fifth in offensive rebounding (13.3) and sixth in turnover margin (+1.60) and steals (10.33 per game).
Taylor Pilot is second in steals (33) and tied for second in steals per game (2.8). She is third with her 44 assists, fourth in assist/turnover ratio (+1.2), and fifth in assists per game (3.7).
Mya Blake is fourth in steals (25), sixth in treys made (24), seventh in three's made per game (1.8) and field goal percentage (43.2%). She is ninth in steals per game (1.9) and tenth in scoring (13.5 ppg).
Liliana Marques is second with her 28 treys made and sixth with her 1.9 three-point field goals made per game.
Joia Armstrong is fifth with her 13 blocked shots and 0.9 blocked shots per game average.
Jadyn Patterson is seventh with her 23 treys made.
COUGARS IN REVIEW: Cal State San Marcos is 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the CCAA after defeating Sonoma State on New Year's Eve 66-63 in San Marcos. The Cougars' three losses are to Point Loma (75-73), Azusa Pacific (58-44), and Chico State (70-65). They are averaging 67.2 points per game while giving up 58 points per game. CSUSM is outrebounding its opponents 37.8 to 35.3. Three players are averaging double figures in scoring in Charity Gallegos (15.0 ppg), Jordan Vasquez (13.9 ppg), and Mina Tameilau (12.6 ppg). Vasquez leads the team with her 9.9 rebounding average and 52.4% shooting from the field. Gallegos has connected on team high 27 treys. She also leads the team with her 16 steals, 27 assists, and 37% shooting from three-point land. Tameilau is shooting a team best 79.4% from the line and Malia Mastora has blocked a team high 18 shots.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The all-time series between the Warriors and CSUSM is tied at 6-6. The Cougars have won the last four meetings including both games last season. They defeated the Warriors 70-59 in Turlock on Dec. 22, 2022.
Da'Myiah Lewis had 17 points to lead the way for Stan State with
Liliana Marques adding 13 points. CSUSM defeated Stan State 82-71 in San Marcos on Feb. 11, 2023.

SEAWOLVES IN REVIEW: Sonoma State is 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA and have lost its last two games 75-72 to Simon Fraser and 66-63 at Cal State San Marcos. The Seawolves are averaging 70.8 points per game while giving up 65.9 points per game. They are outrebounding their opponents 40.4 to 37.3. Three players are averaging double figures in scoring in Alli McDonald (17.4 ppg), Jayme Blackard (12.8 ppg), and Madisyn Clark (10.3 ppg). McDonald leads the team with her 11.5 rebounding average, 45.8% shooting from the field, 83% shooting from the line, and nine blocked shots. Blackard has dished out a team high 45 assists to go with her team leading 22 steals. Clark is shooting a team leading 44% from three-point land made a team high 22 treys.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Seawolves lead the all-time series 23-18 including winning four of the last five meetings. Sonoma State defeated Stan State 72-71 in Rohnert Park on Dec. 8, 2022.
