TURLOCK, Calif.--- With five games left in the regular season, Stan State is one game out fourth place and a three-way tie for seventh place in the CCAA standings. The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a berth to the 2023-24 CCAA Basketball Championships, March 7-9 at Cal State San Bernardino. Stan State returns to The Fitz this week for a pair of conference games this Thursday and Saturday, February 15 and 17. The Warriors will host Cal Poly Humboldt on Homecoming this Thursday with a 5:30pm scheduled tip-off. Stan State will host Chico State this Saturday at 1pm on Fan Appreciation Day.
STAN STATE SAAC BASIC NEEDS DRIVE THIS WEEK, FEB. 11-17
This week is the Annual Stan State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Basic Needs Drive. The drive will run from Sunday, February 11th to Saturday, February 17th. All donations will go directly to the Warrior Food Pantry. Let's help them PACK THE PANTRY! Items acceptable for donations include the following: 1.) Canned items (e.g. vegetables, beans, etc.), 2.) Bagged/Boxed Items (e.g. rice, pasta, etc.) and 3.) Hygiene products (e.g. deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, feminine products, etc.). All Items can be brought to the Athletic Office in The Fitzpatrick Arena or Student Services Room 136 Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Warrior fans and fans of their opponents who bring a donation of three basic need items will be admitted to this week's respective home contest for FREE!!!
STAN STATE IN REVIEW: The Warriors enter this weekend's games with a 13-14 overall record and an 8-9 CCAA record. They are averaging 63.8 points per game while giving up 65 points per game. Stan State is being outrebounded 41.2 to 39.9.
Mya Blake leads the team with her 14.8 scoring average, 59 assists, and 38 treys made.
Aunika Hornung is averaging a team high 5.7 rebounds per game to go with her team leading 26 blocked shots.
Taylor Pilot leads Stan State with her 84 assists.
Liliana Marques is shooting a team high 80.6% from the line with
Lyric Richardson is shooting a team best 49.1% from the field.
Asha Walker leads the team with her 38% shooting from three-point land.
STAN STATE HEAD COACH WAYMAN STRICKLAND: Coach Strickland enters his twelfth season at the helm of the Warrior women's basketball team. Strickland is 123-176 in his coaching stint at Stan State and the second winningest coach with his 120 victories. In 2013-14, he led the Warriors to one of the best turn-around seasons in program history, going from 2-25 to 13-13 and just missing out on the CCAA tournament. In February of 2017, the Warriors posted their first postseason victory since 1990 and advanced to the CCAA semifinals. He has coached 23 All-CCAA honorees including two First Team selections. Zahria Hendrix (2017-18) and Ana Burch (2013-14) were CCAA Freshman of the Year honorees. Prior to his arrival on the CSU Stanislaus campus, Strickland was the assistant coach for the women's basketball program at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton between 2009 and 2012. Before his at Delta College, Strickland was the varsity girls coach (2007-09) and varsity boys assistant coach (2002-07) at Stockton's Edison High School. Strickland spent nine years as a professional player in Europe and Asia. His accolades include being named the top point guard in the Asian Basketball Championships three times (1996-98). He was the most valuable player of the 1997 Asian Basketball Championships. He was a four-year starter at the University of San Diego from 1988 to 1992, when he amassed 1,040 career points. Currently, he still holds the third spot in the USD record book with 408 assists.
ROAD TRIP: Stan State went 0-2 in its two road games last week. The Warriors lost 46-44 to Sonoma State and 76-59 to Cal State San Marcos. They averaged 51 points per game while gave up 61.5 points per game.
Mya Blake led them with her 16 points per game average. Blake and
Taylor Pilot each had a team high seven steals.
Talia Maxwell averaged 8.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
ONE GAME OUT OF FOURTH PLACE: With just five games left in the regular season, the Warriors are in a three-way tie for seventh place in the CCAA regular season standings with Cal Poly Humboldt and Sonoma State each with an 8-9 record. They are just one game out of fourth place which there is a three-way tie for between Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Dominguez Hills, and Cal State San Bernardino.

DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Four Warriors have recorded double-doubles this season in
Taylor Pilot,
Joia Armstrong,
Lyric Richardson, and
Talia Maxwell. Pilot recorded a double-double in the Warriors' game versus Simon Fraser on Nov. 18. Pilot scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Armstrong recorded her first double-double of the season in the Warriors' game at Hawai'i Pacific on Nov. 21. She scored 21 points and 11 rebounds. She went 10-for-16 from the field, blocked five shots and made her only attempt from beyond the arc. Richardson recorded her first double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) in the Warriors' victory over Cal State East Bay on Nov. 30, 2022. She went five-for-ten from the field to go with her two steals and two blocked shots. Her second double-double came in Stan State's victory at CSUMB on New Year's Eve with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She was perfect from the field going five-for-five. Maxwell recorded her first collegiate double-double in the Warriors' game against CSU San Bernardino with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Stan State junior transfer
Mya Blake was named to the Warrior Classic that took place Nov. 17-18 at The Fitzpatrick Arena. Blake led the Warriors to a 1-1 weekend while averaging 14.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. She had a +2.0 assist/turnover ratio in the Warriors' two games. For the weekend, Blake shot 46% from the field including connecting on two of her eight attempts from beyond the arc. She was a perfect two-for-two from the line.
Liliana Marques was named to the 2023 Outrigger Hoops in Hawai'i Classic All-Tournament Team. Marques averaged 19.0 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in the Warriors' two games in the classic including scoring a career high 25 points in Stan State's game versus Northwestern Oklahoma State. Marques shot 48% from the field including 52.6% (10-for-19) from three-point land. The Sacramento native was four-for-six from the line to go with her three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
CCAA LEADERS: Stan State is second in the league in blocked shots (3.59), offensive rebounds (14.6 per game), tied for fourth in rebounding (39.9), fourth in steals (9.85), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.332) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.296). The Warriors are sixth in turnover margin (+1.04).
Mya Blake is second in steals (59), tied for third steals (2.4), sixth in treys (48), and eighth in treys made per game (1.9).
Taylor Pilot is tied for third in steals per game (2.4) and assist/turnover ratio (+1.3). She is third in total steals (55) and fifth in assists/game (3.5) and total assists (84).
Aunika Hornung is tied for third with 26 blocked shots and 1.2 blocked shots per game.
Joia Armstrong is eighth with her 22 blocked shots.
'JACKS IN REVIEW: Cal Poly Humboldt is 10-11 overall and 8-9 in the CCAA after losing both of the games this past weekend on the road at Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona. The Lumberjacks are averaging 59.7 points per game while giving up 61.0 points per game. They are being outrebounded 37.6 to 35.5. Emilia Long is averaging a team leading 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She also leads the team with her 86 assists, 68 steals, and 74.3% shooting from the line. Marley Johnson and Madison Rubino have blocked a team high 13 shots. Johnson has made a team high 59 treys and shot a team leading 35.8% from beyond the arc. Jadis Watson leads the team with her 45% shooting from the field.
LAST TIME: The 'Jacks defeated Stan State 61-52 in Arcata on Jan. 13 behind Madison Rubino and Marley Johnson each with 17 points.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Since 2008, Cal Poly Humboldt leads the all-time series 24-8 including winning the last four games in a row. The last Stan State victory was on Dec. 11, 2021, a 51-46 victory by the Warriors behind current assistant coach

WILDCATS IN REVIEW: Chico State is 16-7 overall and 12-5 in the CCAA after winning five of its last six games. The Wildcats are averaging 73.3 points per game while giving up 64.8 points per game. They are being outrebounded 39.8 to 36.6. Four Wildcats are averaging double digits in Zhane Duckett (15.2 ppg), Jordan Allred (12.1 ppg), Makenzie Laporte (11.3 ppg), and Brandy Huffhines (10.7 ppg). Laporte leads the team with her 5.7 rebounding average. Duckett leads the Wildcats with her 46 st4eals, 124 assists, 80% shooting from the line, and 51% shooting from the field. Morgan Mathis has made a team leading 38 treys and connected on a team high 48% of them. Ashleigh Barr has blocked a team high 18 shots.
LAST TIME: Chico State defeated Stan State 75-57 on Jan. 11 in Chico behind Jordan Allred's 18 points. She was one of five player to score in double digits.
