TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State split its season series with the visiting Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks after dropping tonight's contest at The Fitz.
Dontrell Hewlett recorded his first double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
John Wade III chipped in 12 points and
Cam Walker added 11 points for the hosts.
FIRST HALF: Cal Poly Humboldt built an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game.
Jonathan Tchengang's jumper off an
Isaiah Jones pass capped a 18-3 run by the Warriors as they took a 18-11 lead mid-way through the half. The Lumberjacks cut the Warrior lead to 18-15 with eight minutes left in the half.
Tony Singleton's trey increased the Warrior lead to 26-11 off a
Baljot Sahi assist at the 6:06 mark of the first half. The visitors outscored the hosts 21-9 to cut Stan State's lead to 35-32 heading into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: Sage Wayans' jumper capped a 12-4 run by Humboldt as the Jacks took a 44-39 lead to begin the second half.
Dontrell Hewlett's lay-up cut the Warrior deficit o 44-43. A trey by Ramiah Adedigba increased Humboldt's lead to 58-47 with eleven minutes left in the half. A
Dontrell Hewlett jumper capped a 11-2 run by Stan State (6-18, 3-15 CCAA) as the hosts cut the deficit to 60-58 with six minutes to go in the game. With just 40 seconds on the clock, Wayans lay-up gave the guests a 68-60 lead. The Warriors didn't go away as they cut Humboldt's lead to 68-65 with just 21 seconds on the clock. Humboldt (5-18, 2-16 CCAA) sealed the 72-65 as they went four-for-for from the line down the stretch.
SEASON HIGH: Dontrell Heweltt had a season high 22 points for the Warriors. He went 10-for-20 from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Warrior. Hewlett dished out two assists and blocked one shot for Stan State.
16-0: Stan State's bench outscored Humboldt's 16-0 lead led by Jonathan Techengang with eight poets followed by
Tony Singleton and
Isaiah Jonese ach with three and
Cheikh Gueye with two points.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will host No. 25 Chico State this Saturday, February 17 at 3pm. Stan State defeated the Warriors 84-56 on Jan. 11 in Chico. The Wildcats defeated Cal State Monterey Bay this evening 78-67 in Seaside.
