TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State will host Cal State Monterey Bay this Thursday, February 29 on Senior/City of Turlock Night. Prior to the game, the Warriors will recognize their three seniors in
Joia Armstrong,
Liliana Marques, and
Ashmeen Sran. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at The Fitz.
STAN STATE IN REVIEW: The Warriors enter their regular season home finale with a 15-16 overall record and a 10-11 CCAA record after splitting their two games in the Inland Valley. Stan State is averaging 63.6 points per game while giving up 65.0 points per game. The Warriors are being outrebounded 40.8 to 39.6.
Mya Blake leads the team with her 14.9 scoring average and 52 treys made. She is tied with
Taylor Pilot each with 65 steals. Pilot leads Stan State with her 99 assists. Jaydn Patterson leads the Warriors with her 38.1% shooting from three-point land with
Lyric Richardson leading the team with her 46.4% shooting from the field.
Liliana Marques is shooting a team high 78.5% from the charity stripe.
Aunika Hornung is averaging a team leading 5.6 rebounds per game to go with her team high 28 blocked shots.
STAN STATE HEAD COACH WAYMAN STRICKLAND: Coach Strickland enters his twelfth season at the helm of the Warrior women's basketball team. Strickland is 125-178 in his coaching stint at Stan State and the second winningest coach with his 120 victories. In 2013-14, he led the Warriors to one of the best turn-around seasons in program history, going from 2-25 to 13-13 and just missing out on the CCAA tournament. In February of 2017, the Warriors posted their first postseason victory since 1990 and advanced to the CCAA semifinals. He has coached 23 All-CCAA honorees including two First Team selections. Zahria Hendrix (2017-18) and Ana Burch (2013-14) were CCAA Freshman of the Year honorees. Prior to his arrival on the CSU Stanislaus campus, Strickland was the assistant coach for the women's basketball program at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton between 2009 and 2012. Before his at Delta College, Strickland was the varsity girls coach (2007-09) and varsity boys assistant coach (2002-07) at Stockton's Edison High School. Strickland spent nine years as a professional player in Europe and Asia. His accolades include being named the top point guard in the Asian Basketball Championships three times (1996-98). He was the most valuable player of the 1997 Asian Basketball Championships. He was a four-year starter at the University of San Diego from 1988 to 1992, when he amassed 1,040 career points. Currently, he still holds the third spot in the USD record book with 408 assists.
LAST ROAD TRIP: The Warriors went 1-1 on their last road trip of the regular season to the Inland Valley with a 70-58 loss to Cal State San Bernardino and a 59-58 victory over Cal Poly Pomona.
Mya Blake led the team with her 17 points against the Coyotes on Thursday.
Liliana Marques paced Stan State with 16 points and seven rebounds. She also connected on four of her five attempts from beyond the arc.
Asha Walker added nine points and four steals while
Taylor Pilot scored eight points and dished out seven assists.

Mya Blake each with 65. Pilot is seven with her 99 assists. Blake is second with her 52 treys while Cookie Marques is tied for sixth with 44.
1,000 POINTS: Mya Blake scored her 1,000
th point in the Warriors' game against Chico State February 15. This season, Blake has scored 417 points in the Warriors' first 31 games. In her first two seasons of her collegiate career at San Francisco State, Blake scored 611 points to give her 1,028 for her collegiate career.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Four Warriors have recorded double-doubles this season in
Taylor Pilot,
Joia Armstrong,
Lyric Richardson, and
Talia Maxwell. Pilot recorded a double-double in the Warriors' game versus Simon Fraser on Nov. 18. Pilot scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Armstrong recorded her first double-double of the season in the Warriors' game at Hawai'i Pacific on Nov. 21. She scored 21 points and 11 rebounds. She went 10-for-16 from the field, blocked five shots and made her only attempt from beyond the arc. Richardson recorded her first double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) in the Warriors' victory over Cal State East Bay on Nov. 30, 2022. She went five-for-ten from the field to go with her two steals and two blocked shots. Her second double-double came in Stan State's victory at CSUMB on New Year's Eve with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She was perfect from the field going five-for-five. Maxwell recorded her first collegiate double-double in the Warriors' game against CSU San Bernardino with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Stan State junior transfer
Mya Blake was named to the Warrior Classic that took place Nov. 17-18 at The Fitzpatrick Arena. Blake led the Warriors to a 1-1 weekend while averaging 14.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. She had a +2.0 assist/turnover ratio in the Warriors' two games. For the weekend, Blake shot 46% from the field including connecting on two of her eight attempts from beyond the arc. She was a perfect two-for-two from the line.
Liliana Marques was named to the 2023 Outrigger Hoops in Hawai'i Classic All-Tournament Team. Marques averaged 19.0 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in the Warriors' two games in the classic including scoring a career high 25 points in Stan State's game versus Northwestern Oklahoma State. Marques shot 48% from the field including 52.6% (10-for-19) from three-point land. The Sacramento native was four-for-six from the line to go with her three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
CCAA LEADERS: The Warriors are second in the blocked shots (3.52), third in offensive rebounds (14.4), fourth in steals (9.81), and fifth in three-point field goal percentage defense (30%) and three-point field goal percentage (33%). They are sixth in scoring defense (66.0 points per game).
Taylor Pilot is tied for fourth in steals (65) and fourth in assists per game (3.5), assists (99), and assist/turnover ratio (+1.3). Pilot is tied for fifth in steals per game (2.3).
Mya Blake is tied for fourth in steals (65) and tied for fifth in steals per game (2.3). Blake is sixth in treys made (52), seventh in three-point field goals per game (1.9), and ninth in free throw percentage (77.1%).
Aunika Hornung is tied for second in blocked shots per game (1.2) and fifth in blocked shots (28).
Liliana Marques is eighth in treys (44) and
Joia Armstrong is eighth in blocked shots with 24.
OTTERS IN REVIEW: Cal State Monterey Bay is 4-22 overall and 2-19 in the CCAA. The Otters are averaging 61.8 points per game while giving up 69.3 points per game. They are outrebounding their opponents 38 to 37.2. Cierah Michalik and Sarah Shaw leads the team with their 9.9 and 9.7 respective scoring averages. Shaw leads the team with her 8.7 rebounding average and 47% shooting from the field. Michalik leads CSUMB with her 23 treys made, 70 assists, and 81.6% shooting from the charity stripe. Sha'nece Garrett has recorded a team high 50 steals and Deyliana Lewis has blocked a team leading 30 shots.
LAST TIME: Stan State defeated the Otters 78-73 in Seaside earlier this season on December 31.
