TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State was swept this afternoon by the visiting Chico State Wildcats 11-2 and 8-2 in the second and third game of the four-game CCAA series at Warrior Field. The two teams will conclude the four-game series tomorrow afternoon at noon.
GAME ONE: Game one of today's doubleheader was scoreless until the Warrior half of the fourth inning.
Alex Solis had a lead-off walk and went to second when
Chris Catalano was hit by a pitch with one out. Solis scored on a one-out single by
Flavio Perez to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
The Warriors doubled their lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out,
Kyle Rachels walked and scored on a two-out double by
Tyler Van Dyk.
The score remained 2-0 Warriors until the top of the sixth inning. Chico State (11-5, 6-5 CCAA) six runs in sixth inning all unearned to take a 6-2 lead. The Wildcats increased their lead to 11-2 with a five-run ninth to take the game one.
WARRIOR PITCHERS: Trent Huff (0-2) pitched 5.2 innings, giving up six hits and six unearned runs while striking out one.
STAN STATE HITTERS: Chris Catalano and
Robert Valdivia combined to go five-for-eight.
GAME TWO: The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the night cap. They increased their lead to 6-0 with a five-run second inning. The five-run inning was capped by a two-run home run by Troy Kent.
Stan State (7-10-1, 3-6 CCAA) cut into the deficit in the bottom of the second inning.
Jerry Nix and
Flavio Perez had back-to-back singles to lead off the innings. Nix scored on a one-out single through the left side by
Mac Cabero. The Warriors added another run in the fourth inning to cut the Wildcat lead to 6-2. Perez and
JD Madrigal had back-to-back lead-off singles. Perez scored when
Jacob Baker reached on a fielder's choice.
Chico State increased its lead to 8-2 with a two-run seventh to take the night cap and the doubleheader sweep.
WARRIOR PTICHERS: Caleb Bertoncini pitched 5.1 innings of relief, giving up six hits and two runs, while striking out four and walking one.
STAN STATE HITTERS: Chris Catalano,
Kyle Rachels, and
Flavio Perez went a combined six-for-ten with a run scored.
