SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--- For the second straight day, SF State Gators (22-14, 16-10 CCAA) used a late-inning rally to defeat the visiting Stan State Warriors, this time 8-4 in game two of this weekend's four-game series.
JD Madrigal and
Flavio Perez went a combined six-for-eight with three runs batted in and a run scored to lead the way for the Warriors.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Jacob French drew a one-walk scored and later scored on a two-out single by Daniel Santos. The Warriors tied the game at 1-1 in their half of the second inning.
JD Madrigal had a lead-off single, went to third on a double by
Flavio Perez. Madrigal scored on a
Danny Murphy ground out to tie the game at 1-1.
SF State retook the lead, 2-1, in its half of the fourth inning. Nicholas Allred and Christian Smith had back-to-back lead-off walks. Smith scored on a one-out single by Kyle Olimpia.
Stan State (13-23-1, 9-19 CCAA) took a 3-2 lead with a two-run fifth inning.
Robert Valdivia had a lead-off single. He went to second on a one-out single by
Alex Solis. With two outs, Madrigal drove in Valdivia with a single to right field. Still with two outs, the Warriors took a 3-2 lead on an infield single by Perez which scored Solis.
The Warriors added another run in the top of the seventh.
Chris Catalano had a lead-off triple and scored on a two-out single by Madrigal to increase Stan State's lead to 4-2.
The Gators took a 6-4 lead with a four-run seventh inning capped by a back-to-back run scoring two-out singles by AJ Schrader and Olimpia. They added four insurance runs in their half of the eight to increase their lead to 8-4.
SFSU reliever, Mickey Radanovich, retired Stan State in order in the top of the ninth as the Gators took the second game of this weekend's four-game series 8-4.
WARRIOR HITTERS: JD Madrigal and
Flavio Perez each had three hits.
Robert Valdivia and
Alex Solis each went two-for-five with a runs scored. Madrigal drove in two runs and scored a run while Perez had a run batted in for the guests.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Tony Jacob recorded the no-decision in the start of the Warriors. He pitched six innings, giving up six hits and two runs while striking out three and walking three.
Damian Vallejos,
JoJo Keldsen, and
Quinn Oliver all pitched in relief for Stan State.
UP NEXT: The two teams will finish out the four-game series tomorrow with a noon starting doubleheader at Maloney Field. After tomorrow, Stan State will return home to host Cal State San Marcos, April 26-28, in a four-game series at Warrior Field. It will be Blue Chip Sponsorship Night on Friday, April 26. Saturday's doubleheader on April 27 will be Golden Valley Health Center Day. Sunday's game will be Senior Day as at 10:40 a.m., the Warriors will recognize their nine seniors in
