FRESNO, Calif.--- Stan State men's cross country team began their season capturing the four-mile Seawolf Invite/CCAA Championship Preview at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif., this morning. The Warrior women finished in second place in the 5K race.
Tanner Gerhart paced the Warriors with his second-place time of 20:59.01. Leading the way for the Stan State women was
Annie Wild with her time of 18:45.41.
MEN'S RACE
CHAMPIONS: The Warriors won their first race of the season with 26 points. They had seven of the top ten finishers led by
Tanner Gerhart's second-place finish time of 20:59.01. Finishing right behind Gerhart was
Abe Alsaidi with a third-place time of 21:14.55. Crossing the finish line in sixth place was
Mason Oliveira (21:18.96). Rounding out the scoring for Stan State were
Jacob Diaz (seventh, 21:24.24) and
Jackson Oliveira (eighth, 21:26.23).
Nate Olsen finished in ninth place (21:26.44) followed by
Dominic Robles (tenth, 21:26.93), and
Adin Dibble (21st, 22:08.63. This was the Oliveira brothers and Gerhart's first collegiate cross country race.
TEAM FINISHES: Stan State won the Seawolf Invite/CCAA Championship Preview with 26 points followed by Cal State Monterey Bay in second place with 78 points. Rounding out top five were Cal State East Bay (third, 88 points), Orange Coast (fourth, 115 points), and UC Merced (fifth, 126 points). Finish in sixth through ninth places were Cal State Los Angeles (sixth, 148 points), Soka (seventh, 182 points), Ventura (eighth, 213 points), and Jessup (ninth, 256 points).
TOP FIVE INDIVIDUALS: Cal State East Bay's Cole McKain captured the Seawolf Invite/CCAA Championship Preview with a time of 20:51.52. Finishing right behind McKain was Stan State's
Tanner Gerhart with a time of 20:59.01 in the four-mile race. Finishing in third place was the Warriors'
Abe Alsaidi (21:14.55) followed by Soka's Andre Souza (21:15.99) and Cal State East Bay's Matthew Morgan (21:18.18).
WOMEN'S RACE
SECOND PLACE: In their first race of the 2024 season, Stan State finished in second place with 40 points. The Warriors had seven of the top fifteen finishers led by
Annie Wild's fifth-place time of 18:45.41. Finishing eight seconds behind Wild was
Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva in seventh place (18:53.21 followed by
Tessa Vasquez in eighth place (19:00.31). Rounding out the scoring for the Warriors were
Sophia Mirelez (12
th, 19:21.18) and
Dede Salcedo (13
th, 19:23.13).
Noheli Ron was the next Warrior to cross the finish line in 14
th place (19:25.15) followed by
Crystal Hernandez in 15
th place (19:25.45). Finishing in 18
th place was
Nina Furtado (19:40.30) followed by
Milca Osorio (20
th, 19:49.03),
Bela Moreno (21
st, 19:52.22), and
Aubrey Lascano (35
th, 21:01.33). This was Mirelez and Lascano's first race as a Warrior this morning.
TEAM FINISHES: Sonoma State captured the 5K Seawolf Invite/CCAA Championship Preview with 23 points followed by the Warriors in second place with 40 points. Cal State Monterey Bay finished in third with 69 points with Cal State East Bay in fourth place (115 points). Rounding out the field were UC Merced (fifth, 138 points), Cal State Los Angeles (sixth, 180 points), and Jessup (seventh, 192 points).
TOP FIVE INDIVIDUALS: Sonoma State's Contance O'Neal won the Seawolf Invitational with her time of 19:03.03 followed by her teammate, Makenzie Kordic's time of 18:33.43. Rounding out the top five were Academy of Art's Grace Southern (18:38.34), Sonoma State's Sammy Ebell (18:42.39), and the Warriors'
Annie Wild (18:45.41).

BACK IN FRESNO IN OCTOBER: Both the Warrior men's and women's cross country teams will return to Woodward Park in Fresno on October 25 for the 2024 CCAA Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships. The men's 8K race will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by the women's 6K race at 10:00 a.m.
NEXT RACE: Stan State will return the course a week from today when the Warriors host The Kim Duyst Twilight Cross Country Invitationals at River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres, Calif. The women's 6K race will commence at 7:45 p.m. followed by the men's 8K race at 8:15 p.m.
